The Butler's Rangers were a group of eight companies of men who fought for the Crown during the American Revolutionary War. The Rangers were formed by Lieutenant Colonel John Butler and were composed of Loyalists, mainly from the Mohawk Valley (in present day State of New York), who came to Canada to flee the imprisonment and persecution inflicted by the American Rebels. EARLY SCHOOLS OF NIAGARA FALLS The earliest of these schools was the Drummondville School, a small one room log house which was built around 1795 on the east side of the Drummond Hill Presbyterian Church. This schoolhouse was replaced with a small stone building sometime in the 1820's, and was located to thewest of the church.

When I was asked a couple of months ago to write a piece for the 2015 edition of Circa, I remember thinking that the timing was perfect as I was just finalizing the details of our most recent (large-scale) acquisition, and it was something I would be thrilled to write about and to share. Some Early Hotels. Alexandra House — The Alexandra House was located on the north side of Clifton Hill. American Hotel – According to a tavern license, the American hotel was in existence in 1875. It had 40 rooms, and was located beside the Princess Theatre, Main Street. The hotel was destroyed by a fire on December 14, 1912.BUTLER'S RANGERS
The Butler's Rangers were a group of eight companies of men who fought for the Crown during the American Revolutionary War. The Rangers were formed by Lieutenant Colonel John Butler and were composed of Loyalists, mainly from the Mohawk Valley (in present day State of New York), who came to Canada to flee the imprisonment and persecution inflicted by the American Rebels. ROSBERGS & THE ROSBERG FAMILY Mary (Mindel) and Jacob Wolfe Rosberg founded what would become known as the largest and friendliest department store in Niagara Falls. The Rosbergs emigrated from Poland to Toronto, Canada in 1913. The family including four children farmed for a time before reportedly selling their cow at Kensington Market and moving on to Niagara to peddle CONFEDERATES IN NIAGARA FALLS Dr. Luke Blackburn, a senior Confederate stationed in Montreal, appears to have been in the Niagara area in early August.
