COMMUNITY COUNTS INITIATIVE The Community Counts Initiative (CCI) is an intensive program offering tools to strengthen service sustainability for community-based radio stations serving rural and under-represented communities. This cohort-based initiative brings together 10 stations for a combination of in-depth training by community media experts and peer-basedlearning.

WANT TO START A RADIO STATION? HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED TO Here is What You Need to Know. On April 21, the Federal Communications Commission announced it will accept applications for full-power non-commercial radio stations later this year. The application window is Nov. 2-9. The potential for non-commercial broadcasting to impact communities is tremendous. Interested nonprofits are encouraged to get COMMUNITY RADIO UNDERWRITING QUESTIONS AND ISSUES In April, NFCB issued a new community radio station underwriting guide, the successor to its long-running authoritative reference manual. The new release, the NFCB Practical Guide to Underwriting, is a complete rewrite of NFCB’s previous Underwriting Guide, with a focus on offering practical advice rather than strictly a legal analysis of the FCC’s rules. UPCOMING GRANTS FOR COMMUNITY RADIO The reporter becomes an employee of your newsroom, serving for one to two years, starting in June 2020. Deadline is September 20. Apply here. The American Association of University Women is seeking applications for its Community Action Grants to provide funds that address issues related to the needs of women and girls.
