OTTAWA, JUNE 30, 2020: A new study reveals widespread support from Canadians for the preservation and celebration of the country’s many heritage places, historic sites and traditional neighbourhoods. Much of the story of our country is embedded within the posts and beams of old barns. They demonstrate the industriousness of the rural landscape and the importance of farm families to the development of Canada. Prior to World War II, census records show that two-thirds of RING HOUSES (UNIVERSITY OF ALBERTA) Ring House 1 (1911) – the second oldest building at the U of A – was the home of five U of A presidents from 1912-1959, and the other three Ring Houses also performed high-profile roles. When the Annapolis Royal Regional Academy, a beloved 1939 Beaux-Arts school building, was threatened with demolition in 2013, a group of residents from the town of Annapolis Royal took on a challenge: to find an appropriate new use of one of the town’s visual anchors. YUKON FIRST NATIONS HERITAGE GROUP Earlier this year, the Yukon First Nations Heritage Group released the 2018 Guide to Heritage Stewardship for Yukon First Nation Governments. Why it’s endangered. In 2003, Famous Players closed the Paramount Theatre and sold it two year later to Calgary-based developer, ProCura. From July 2006 to May 2014, the theatre was leased by the City Centre Church, which used it for Sunday worship services and activities during the week.
