NARCOLEPSY NETWORK
Narcolepsy is a medical disorder that impacts 1 in approximately 2,000 people in the United States of America. The disease is a sleep disorder, involving irregular patterns in Rapid Eye Movement (REM) Sleep and significant disruptions of the normal sleep/wake cycle. NARCOLEPSY FAST FACTS It is estimated that only 25% of people who have narcolepsy have been diagnosed and are receiving treatment. Symptoms of narcolepsy include excessive daytime sleepiness, sleep attacks, cataplexy, sleep paralysis, hallucinations, and disrupted nighttime sleep. Cataplexy is an episode in which strong emotion causes a sudden loss of muscletone.
EPWORTH SLEEPINESS SCALE AND SWISS NARCOLEPSY SCALE Epworth Sleepiness Scale. The Epworth Sleepiness Scale is a simple test that allows a person experiencing EDS to evaluate the severity of her or his condition.
