OLD BAY BOILED PEANUTS Directions: In a large stockpot add peanuts and Old Bay Seasoning. Add enough water to cover the peanuts. Bring to a boil and simmer for 3 hours or until done. An Ascension Picnic. The commemoration of Jesus ascension into heaven is today. There is a tradition in some areas to have a picnic. Here in Virginia the weather is warm and is a perfect day for a picnic.PEANUT PESTO
Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Place peanuts on a baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes. Combine the basil and peanuts in a food processor. Pulse until combined. IRISH BANGERS AND POTATOES FOR ST. PATRICKS DAY Directions: Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Put the potatoes and bangers in a large casserole dish or baking sheet. Season with Montreal steak seasonings and olive oil. Toss to coat. Roast in the oven until golden and crispy on the outside and tender and cooked in the middle, about30 minutes.
BANANA YOGURT ROSETTES Preheat the oven to 350. Using a mixer with a paddle attachment cream sugar and butter until light and fluffy. In a separate bowl combine flour, salt and baking powder. BANANA PEPPER HONEY MUSTARD Directions: Using gloves, remove the seeds from the banana peppers and place in a food processor. Process until smooth. Pour into a large pot and stir in the mustard, sugar, honey, vinegar and salt. On high, allow to boil and cook down 3-5 minutes. Stir together the flour and water until smooth. Whisk into the boiling mixture until smooth. SHRIMP AND BLACK BEAN GUMBO Combine the oil and the flour in a pot and cook on medium, stirring constantly for 5-10 minutes until it turns into a dark brown color. Add the onion, bell pepper and celery continue to cook another 5 minutes. Add the stock, garlic, thyme, bay leaf, creole seasoning and beans. Bring mixture to a boil. SOUTHERN SAUTED CABBAGE Directions: Cook bacon in pan until evenly browned about 10 minutes. Remove bacon from pan and set aside. Leave drippings in pan. Chop cabbage and onions and add cabbage and onions to pan. Add seasonings. Cook cabbage and onions for 15-20 minutes or until tender. Add mushrooms and cook another 10 minutes. Slice the tops off of the rolls and set to the side.In a small bowl combine the butter, worcestershire sauce, mustard and onion.
