CARDINAL FLOWER (LOBELIA CARDINALIS) Hardy, North American perennial bears brilliant scarlet-red flowers in summer to early autumn. The Cardinal Flower's popularity soared in Britain and is still thought to be one of the showiest contributions to the English herbaceous border. Although a short-lived perennial, Cardinal Flower will persist in the garden if allowed to re-seed eachyear.
PURPLE CALABASH TOMATO SEEDS (SOLANUM LYCOPERSICUM CV The culture of the ribbed and scalloped Purple Calabash Tomato dates to pre-Columbian Mexico. WILD STRAWBERRY SEEDS (FRAGARIA VIRGINIANA) Thomas Jefferson first recorded strawberries come to table at Shadwell, his boyhood home, on May 28, 1767. This diary entry suggested he was growing the Wild Strawberry, which bears small, extremely sweet fruits. During his 1791 excursion through New England with James Madison, Jefferson also observed strawberries in abundance in the forests and banks along Lake George.
