THE STINSON
Introducing the STINSON by Mission Bicycle Company. Now available for purchase here! With a decade of experience in custom bicycle design, we listened closely to what our customers want most out of their bikes and have come up with the latest in our line of customizable steel frames. It's modern, versatile, and ready for adventure. OVERSIMPLIFIED: BROOKS SADDLE CARE For a Faster Break-in: Apply Brooks brand Proofide to the top (shiny) side of your saddle. Just use a modest amount (a dab will do ya) and massage it into the saddle using a small rag. Lightly coat the entire surface of the saddle. Let it sit for about 10 OVERSIMPLIFIED: HOW TO ORGANIZE A GROUP RIDE The corker is there to ensure no driver tries to sneak through a gap in the group. Encourage riders to thank corkers for their service, and corkers to thank drivers for their patience. Scheduled Stops - If your route is long, consider a midway stop to regroup and allow the slower riders to catch up. Head / tail riders - The leader is the head OVERSIMPLIFIED: POWDER COAT VS. PAINT The average powder application is twice as thick as liquid paint and heat cured for increased durability to protect against scratches, dings, and cracks. Powder coating is also much greener process than liquid paint since the pigment is delivered with compressed air rather than solvents, and remains inert when not in use. STEEL VS. ALUMINUM BIKE FRAMES Aluminum frames are generally stiffer than steel, resulting in a harsher ride. When fractions of a second count, track racers prefer that rigidity. But for getting to the store over city streets steel offers a more forgiving ride. No frame material is more durable than steel. It can ding, scratch, dent, even bend, and retain structuralintegrity.
OVERSIMPLIFIED: COLOR THEORY Our in-store design wall and the online builder here at Mission Bicycle are where our customers are encouraged to lend their sense of personal style to their soon-to-be steeds. Design choices range from component selection to riding style and WELDING VS. BRAZING BIKE FRAMES We often get asked, “What’s better, a lugged bicycle frame or a welded bicycle frame?”Bike frames can be built of many things: steel, aluminum, carbon, even cardboard. How the individual pieces are joined together depends on the material and the builder. For metal there are two primary methods and a lot of confusion about how they compare, or which is used for what, and why. SUTRO ARTIST'S PRINTS Way back in 2012 we introduced the Sutro, an evolution of our Valencia frame that offered internal gearing for making it up and over the many hills in this city we call home.During the launch we commissioned a local artist by the name of Hugh D'Andrade to depict the joy of the ascent and the subject of that frame's namesake, Sutro Tower. A recent discovery has brought a very limited number STEEL VS.
THE MAKING OF THE LEVEL SHIFTER Introducing Level, a simple and intuitive shifter for city riders designed to pair any handlebar style with our Sutro internally geared bicycle.Because you should choose the riding posture best suited to your streets. Your equipment shouldn't choose for you. DO YOUR HANDLEBARS FIT YOUR RIDING? Drop bar. This is the classic road style bar. The drop bars best feature - multiple hand positions - often goes unused in city riding. While you'll have 2 to 3 places to put your hands, many riders stay up top on the flats for shorter commutes. If you're looking for power, getting down in the drops allows you to lean into position for themost
HANDS-FREE SHIFTING
A while back we shared the magic of our internal 8-speed hubs. Well, we're equal opportunity wheel builders. Say hello to our 2-speed friends, the Sturmey-Archer Kickback and the SRAM Automatix. Both hubs give the rider one extra gear, both are internal, both are practically zero maintenance, and best of all, both are hands-free.How's that?Yup, hands-free.
BROOKS ENGLAND: THE MAKING OF AN ICON From Humble BeginningsThe year was 1866 when a young John Boultbee Brooks trampled into town on horseback with high hopes of making a name for himself as a leatherworker. He'd scrounged up his savings and rode into the British city of Birmingham to begin his business venture of hand making horse bridles for the local equestrians of the era.SAFETY PIZZA

The big changes: The retail shop at 766 Valencia Street will remain closed to the public. Let it sit for about 10 OVERSIMPLIFIED: FREEWHEELS The exterior teeth and ratchet (blue) are turning counterclockwise, while the interior pawl and axle (red and yellow) are static. Halfway through, the direction reverses and the ratchet turns clockwise, engaging the pawl which drives the axle and the bike forward. That's pedaling backward (coasting works the same) and forward on a freewheelbike.
OVERSIMPLIFIED: POWDER COAT VS.
WELDING VS.
