MENTAL HEALTH
Mental health issues are the third leading cause of disability burden in Australia. Not all mental health issues are the same and many people can recover if they receive support early. 4 million Australians* have a disability and of those, only 15% are physical and 90% aren’t visible. SERVICE DIRECTORY SEARCH RESULTS Service directory search results. Mission Australia's nationwide services help people find safe and affordable housing, support disadvantaged children and families, empower troubled young people, assist people with mental illness and disability, and much more.IMPACT REPORT
You're making a positive impact on vulnerable families. Life with Sammy’s* ex-partner was unsafe for her and the six children. When the family courageously fled for safety, your ongoing support helped provide a stable and nurturing environment. WHAT CAUSES HOMELESSNESS IN OLDER PEOPLE? Becoming homeless later in life seems unimaginable, but this is the sad reality for almost 18,625 Australians. 1 Australia’s ageing population is increasing rapidly and is predicted to more than double from 2010 to 2050. 2 With an ageing population, homelessness in older people is an issue that should concern everyone. What defines an olderAustralian?

It is much broader than physical violence, and include actions that control, humiliate or scare the other person or people in the household. BREAKING THE CYCLE OF POVERTY THROUGH EDUCATION Every young Australian should be able to reach their full potential and achieve their goals but some children in Inala are missing out due to the poor living conditions, low incomes and entrenched disadvantagein the community.

Today Patricia (Patty) Councillor, Mission Australia Coordinator of Mental Health Support Services in Western Australia, talks about what this means to her.Q&A WITH TIMMI
