MONUMENT OF THE MONTH: EVANGELINE BLASHFIELD FOUNTAIN The fountain’s design includes the glass mosaic of the allegorical figure of Abundance by Mrs. Blashfield’s husband, the prominent artist and also a founding member of MAS, Edwin H. Blashfield (1848-1936). Evangeline was the model for the image. A GUIDE TO PLANNING YOUR OWN JANE’S WALK Jane’s Walk is a global festival of free, citizen-led walking tours inspired by urban activist, Jane Jacobs. MAS is proud to be the host of Jane’s Walk NYC, the biggest Jane’s Walk festival anywhere in the world.What started with a handful of walks in 2011 has since grown into a three-day celebration featuring hundreds of walking tours across the five boroughs. CENTRAL PARK SOUTH AND WEST 60TH STREET Our virtual walk will begin at the General Sherman Monument (New York’s greatest work of public art) and pass through the Plaza Hotel. We will then cover Central Park South (including the group of equestrian statues at Bolívar Plaza) to Columbus Circle. ADVOCATES FOR PRIVATELY OWNED PUBLIC SPACE In 2000, MAS partnered with public space scholar Jerold Kayden to publish Privately Owned Public Space: The New York City Experience, a book whose analysis found that a significant number of owners had illegally privatized their public spaces.In response, we launched the Advocates for Privately Owned Public Space (APOPS) partnership, to track, monitor, and promote needed reforms on behalf of COMPREHENSIVE COMMUNITY-BASED PLANNING IS ESSENTIAL TO Vision for an Effective Comprehensive Planning Framework.
