David Pescud started sailing as a child on the waters of Port Hacking where he grew up. He has sailed almost continuously for 60 years, including many Sydney to Hobarts, and does so with a passion that is infectious. The Making Waves Foundation, formerly Sailors with Disabilities, started in February 1994 with the 50th Sydney to Hobart Race. It was the first time a fully disabled crew had sailed in an ocean race. We aim to improve the lives of disabled and disadvantaged people through our sailing programs. By developing their confidence and team skills, we help people meet life’s challenges with determination andoptimism.

We are proud to have been offering our sailing programs for over 27years
We provide free sailing and training programs for disabled and disadvantaged people and their carers. Our programs use sailing as a tool to build confidence, self-esteem and new relationships. Through sailing, we start to forget about what we can't do and focus on whatwe can.
