With funding from the British Heart Foundation and in collaboration with Kingâs College London, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and St Thomasâs hospital, we are currently undertaking the ARREST trial; a study that will help paramedics and doctors decide the best treatment for patients who have a cardiac arrest outside of hospital. CALL HANDLER PARALYSED BELOW THE WAIST WALKING A MILE TO A London Ambulance Service Emergency Call Handler who suffers with a rare condition which left him paralysed below the waist is walking a mile to raise funds for the Serviceâs Charitable Fund. Sean will be walking one mile with his Zimmer frame (in STATEMENT ON INCIDENT AT LONDON BRIDGE âWe were called at 2:02pm to reports of an incident at London Bridge. We sent a number of ambulance crews and specialist response teams to the scene, including our hazardous area response unit and our tactical response unit. The first of our medics arrived at the scene within seven minutes. An advanced trauma team from Londonâs Air Ambulance was also dispatched by road. Emergency Medical Technician Robbie Muir died in December last year. Our Emergency Bed Service helps NHS healthcare professionals find hospital beds for seriously ill patients. We arrange for around 10,000 patients to be admitted to hospital or transferred between hospitals every year. We also provide a number of other services. ADVANCED PARAMEDIC PRACTITIONERS Our Advanced Paramedic Practitioners in Critical Care (APP-CC) treat the most seriously ill and injured patients â including patients in cardiac arrest and with serious traumatic injuries. They also attend complex maternity calls, or challenging cases where enhanced decision making is required. They have additional post-graduate education and NEW APPRENTICESHIP SCHEME HELPS MAKE BECOMING A PARAMEDIC The new apprenticeship programme runs alongside the already successful Associate Ambulance Practitioner apprenticeship, which is open to external applicants and is a route to becoming an EAC without any prior medical qualifications. CARDIAC ARREST SURVIVOR THANKS TEAM LAS âHUMBLE HEROESâ FOR SAVINGHIS LIFE
A 54-year-old man whose heart stopped beating for 21 minutes has thanked the London Ambulance Service staff who helped save his life. Nicolas De Santis, a tech entrepreneur, was working at home in his study when he started to feel slight discomfort in his chest which he brushed off as an infection or bad cold. Fortunately for Nicolas his daughter, Alaia, 22, was also at home that day in December 2019, and had gone to check on him before they went out to dinner, when he collapsed in front of her. She immediately dialled 999 and followed the advice from London Ambulance Service call handler, Elliott, who began to talk Alaia through cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).3 Jun 2021
