Still Life in Lodz (Martwa Natura) The lure of family mysteries lies at the heart of “Still Life in Lodz”, an emotionally riveting documentary that journeys to the historically tumultuous city of Lodz, Poland. Here, a surprise reunion with a painting that hung in the same apartment for 75 world-altering years becomes a probing investigation SAVED BY DEPORTATION In a new documentary by Slawomir Grunberg and Robert Podgursky, which makes its New York debut at Makor, “Saved by Deportation” tells the bleak story of Jewish survival under Soviet oppression. Still Life in Lodz (Martwa Natura) The lure of family mysteries lies at the heart of “Still Life in Lodz”, an emotionally riveting documentary that journeys to the historically tumultuous city of Lodz, Poland. Here, a surprise reunion with a painting that hung in the same apartment for 75 world-altering years becomes a probing investigation THE RED BUTTON (CZERWONY GUZIK) The Red Button is a 52-minute documentary film that tells the dramatic story of Stanislav Petrov, the Russian officer who, in 1983, saved the world from atomic war.. During the early ‘80s, the Russian leader was Jurij Andropov, the most right-wing Soviet leader since Stalin. A known hardliner, Andropov was very wary of US activity. SAVED BY DEPORTATION In a new documentary by Slawomir Grunberg and Robert Podgursky, which makes its New York debut at Makor, “Saved by Deportation” tells the bleak story of Jewish survival under Soviet oppression. Of the 500,000 Poles deported from the country’s eastern provinces, under Soviet control, 200,000 were Jews. THE CASE OF JOHANNA LANGEFELD Krakow, Poland 1946. SS-Oberaufseherin Johanna Langefeld a highest ranking female SS-guard at Auschwitz and Ravensbrück escapes from prison where she waited for Nazi crimes trial. The filmmakers discover that the escape of the SS-woman was organized by her former victims – Polish prisoners of the Ravensbrück concentration camp.
