In December 2013, we went global when we broke the story of ON-DEMAND LIPSPEAKING SERVICE LIPSLIVE ANNOUNCED An innovative new on-demand lipspeaking service called LipsLive™ has been announced, aimed at levelling the playing field for deaf and hard of hearing people who rely on lipreading. From the 1st June 2021 lipreaders will be able to have instant access to a lipspeaker online when contacting companies who have signed up to this new service. TRIBUTES PAID TO DEAF FOOTBALLER HUSEYIN ER Tributes have been paid to the Deaf footballer Huseyin Er, who was a star player for St John’s Deaf Football Club in London and for Turkey’s Deaf football team. Er won all of the domestic trophies with St John’s and was the only UK Deaf player to achieve Gold in the Deaflympics, European Championships and the World Cup for Turkey. ROBERT MANDARA: PROGRAMMING YOUR OWN HEARING AIDS Here, in the second part of a three-part series, Limping Chicken reader Robert Mandara explains how to do it. In my last article I suggested why you might want to program your own hearing aids. In this article I present an overview of what you need to be able to do it. Here are some things that happen to you when you’re an oral deaf person out in the hearing world. There have been many times I had people talking to my hearing aids directly when the surroundings were too noisy, such as in a pub. Because of my speech, people forget I JENNY KOEHRING: DAY IN THE LIFE OF A SIGN LANGUAGE The difficulty with describing a typical day of a BSL interpreter is that there isn’t one. ‘Typical’ or ‘normal’ are not words I would use to describe any working day.
