Underneath all the racist comments, bar fights with the elderly over his line of whiskey, or even the attack of a bus filled with UFC fighters, there’s a man who CLASS OF 2021 PREPARES TO WRAP UP THEIR COLLEGE EXPERIENCE This weekend, 3,046 graduates will conclude their Grand Valley State University degree with a virtual commencement. Graduates and their supporters are encouraged to watch the 30-minute ceremony that will take place virtually April 30. The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences will have the most graduating seniors with 1,151 students, followed by the Seidman College UNDERSTANDING THE NCAA COVID-19 ELIGIBILITY EXTENSIONS Last year, the NCAA granted student athletes the ability to extend their own eligibility if their team was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Student athletes normally have five years to play four seasons of their sport. Founding members of SFS were also former members for Student Senate, but the organizations have no current affiliation with each other. A new student group on Grand Valley State University’s campus, Students for Food Sovereignty GV ENCOURAGES LIFELONG LEARNING BY INTRODUCING ‘READ WITH GV encourages lifelong learning by introducing ‘Read with Lakers’ series. Beginning in January 2021, the Read with Lakers series was introduced in an attempt to give alumni the opportunity to connect with one another through reading books. This opportunity encourages lifelong learning for Grand Valley State University Alumni. WHAT DOES “MEDIA CONGLOMERATE” MEAN FOR OUR NEWS It is known that 90 percent of the United States media is controlled by six major companies: Comcast, Fox, The Walt Disney Company, Viacom, AT&T and CBS. All six of these are under media conglomerate, and all of those companies are where are major sources of news comes from. Think of all the different forms of publications and broadcasts there COLLEGE EDUCATION, HAPPINESS LEVEL ARE RELATED, STUDY SAYS College education, happiness level are related, study says. In a perfect world, college equals success, success equals money and money equals happiness. For 2020, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences elected to have their annual awards ceremony on April 25, considerably later than normal. P.S. SERIES A COLLECTION OF SHORT PLAYS, STUDENT TALENT Grand Valley State University’s Theatre Department will be hosting a group of virtual plays called, “P.S. Series: A Night of One Acts.” The performances will be held over Zoom and there will be a short intermission between each play. Taking place on Feb. 18 and 19, the three productions were each chosen by the student AFTER 19 YEARS, GV’S SECOND PLITZUWEIT WILL TAKE THE COURT After 19 years, GV’s second Plitzuweit will take the court. For the 2021-22 women’s basketball season, coach Mike Williams announced seven new recruits, one of which is a familiar face to some long-time Grand Valley State University staff members. Lexi Plitzuweit, a senior at Vermillion High School in South Dakota right now, plans to attend WOMEN’S SOFTBALL TAKES DII MIDWEST REGION CHAMPIONSHIP The No. 13 Grand Valley State University women’s softball team successfully made it to the College World Series this past weekend in a tense double-header against the No. 7 University of Indianapolis Greyhounds.
