BEACH SCHOOL
Beach School is about educating children through a variety of fun games and activities; raising awareness about their local coastal environment and how they can help to sustain it for future generations. These are just some of the topics we might explore: How to behave sensibly and act responsibly when using the beach. Seasonsand tides.
MERE SANDS WOOD NATURE RESERVE Nestled amongst the peaceful agricultural landscape of Rufford, Mere Sands Wood is a true wildlife haven. Spring and summer see new life bloom in the form of marsh orchids and broad buckler fern, while the air buzzes with dragonflies and birdsong. Keep your eyes peeled for species like bullfinches, tree sparrows, great spotted woodpeckers andWILDFLOWERS
Species landing page for Wildflowers. Find out how we protect wildlife across the North West, and the work you can get involved with.LUNT MEADOWS
As well as a nature reserve, Lunt Meadows is a fascinating archaeological site home to one of just a few surviving Mesolithic settlements. Head to the National Museum of Liverpool website for more information about the site’s history and the exciting finds unearthed by archaeologists. We are over the moon to be able tocontinue developing
HEYSHAM NATURE RESERVE Step onto Heysham Nature Reserve during spring and summer and the birdsong is almost deafening. Meadow pipits, sedge warblers, whitethroats, chiffchaffs, greenfinches, linnets and grasshopper warblers are just a handful of the breeding species that add to the spectacular choir. In winter, water rails, snipe and woodcock patrolthe water’s edge.
THE HIVE AT MOSS BANK PARK The Hive is a magical escape for families in the heart of Greater Manchester. A series of unique garden and outdoor spaces can be explored off accessible footpaths, including a terrace backyard, sensory garden, wildlife-friendly garden, community food growing space and the United Utilities 'Slow the Flow Garden' from the 2017 TattonPark Flower Show.
HIGHFIELD MOSS
Unique peatland plants like sphagnum moss, carnivorous round-leaved sundew, cross-leaved heath and lousewort grow out on the mire lawns. However, it is marsh gentian that sets Highfield Moss apart. This stunning blue plant is rare right across the UK, and the Moss is a major North West stronghold for these trumpet-shaped flowers. CADISHEAD & LITTLE WOOLDEN MOSS Walking trails. A public footpath runs around the edge of part of Little Woolden Moss which can be found on O/S Explorer 276 Bolton, Wigan & Warrington and Landranger 109 Manchester, Bolton & Warrington. A permissive path has been created through Cadishead Moss connecting the public footpath to the access from Astley Road.
