USEFUL ENVIRONMENT VARIABLES ⋅ PLUME DOCUMENTATION Plume relies on some environment variables for some configuration options. You can either set them before starting the app with cargo run or write them in a .env file to have automatically loaded. Here are the variables that Plume uses: BASE_URL: the domain name, or IP and port on which Plume is listening. It is used in all federation-related code. TRANSLATORS GUIDE ⋅ PLUME DOCUMENTATION It allows you to translate website, while browsing them, and thus having all the context to understand what needs to be done. We installed this tool for the documentation and joinplu.me (we may install it for Plume too one day, but it is a bit more complicated). You can go on translate.docs.joinplu.me and translate.joinplu.me touse it.

PROJECT STATUS
Currently, Plume developers have less time and Plume is not actively maintained. New features may take time to be implemented. Could you consider similar purpose software: WriteFreely , WordPress with ActivityPubplugin and so on?
WRITE ONCE, PUBLISH EVERYWHERE Plume is not just a single website, but an entire interconnected, yet independent network of what we call _instances_. You write content from your own instance, but anyone else on any other Plume instance can enjoy your stories too.SOCIAL BLOGGING
When we write, it is, most of the time, to share something with other people. Plume has many features that allow the exchange between writers and readers to be bi-directional from the get-go. COLLABORATIVE WRITING Plume also makes it easy to collaborate on an article. Since blogs are not limited to one author, many people can write on the same blog and improve each other's work, to get to the best final result.FIND AN INSTANCE
* Fediverse.blog — The oldest public, generalistic instance for people to see what Plume is like * Lorem.Club — A welcoming Plume instance for everyone, run by enthusiasts * Plume.Nixnet.xyz — An all-encompassing, up-to-date instance * Hey.dou.bet — Here to have a place for you. Part of the dou.bet network of decentralized services* amplifi.casa
* Les Nouvelles d'Ombreport* catlife.drycat.fr
* Blog.Antopie.org — A Plume instance with a nice dark flair to it * FédiQuébec — Instance francophone de Plume hébergée au Québec et principalement destinée auxQuébécois
* bashell.com
* Palom.be — Un refuge pour les écrivain·e·s souhaitant partager leurs nouvelles via la magie du Fediverse * Let's Write — A small Plume instance * Plume Luciférienne — Instance personnelle mais ouverte à tou·tes * StemyPlume — Instance pour mon usage personnel, mais accessible à qui veut. * Anartist — Anartist es una plataforma autogestionada por y para artistas. * Witch Academy — Small personal instance for anyone wishing to write, on any topic. Originally setup for friends, opened to all.ENTER THE FEDIVERSE
NOT JUST PLUME
Plume instances form one part of a huge network, collectively called the Fediverse. It is made up of many instances - servers with different orientations, purposes and policies, each one running a specific application. It does not always have to be Plume. This means that, for instance, Plume is able to communicate with microblogging apps like Mastodon , or Pleroma . Even other blogging apps which support federation, such as WriteFreely can also communicate with Plume! It means that you can comment on, share and like Plume articles from any of these other platforms too. Learn more about the FediverseGREAT DIVERSITY
Each instance is hosted and moderated by different peoples across varied locations of the world, resulting in diverse rules, thematics and ambiance that it focuses on. Thus one given instance can suit you better than another, depending on your opinions and interests. And if no existing instance makes you feel at home, you can very well set up your own , if you are abit adventurous.
Find your dream instanceA SOLID NETWORK
Because the Fediverse is mostly backed by volunteers, and not investors, it is resilient to economic problems. And because of its decentralized nature it is also harder to censor than traditionalplatforms.
And even if one instance happens to go down, the rest of the network will continue to work uninterrupted.OPEN TO EVERYONE
Plume is a libre software, based on open standards, like ActivityPuband Microformats
, which means you can help making it better. We are not only welcoming coders, but really anyone who wants to help: translators, user experience designers, people with communication skills, or anybody else who feels like they can offer something to move the project ahead!
