In the Quirimbas Archipelago (Cabo Delgado), one of the poorest areas of Mozambique, there is no more balance between man and environment. Its extraordinary natural heritage is threatened by overfishing and the negative effects of climate change. The local population, traditionally made of fishermen, finds it hard to establish alternative sources of income. PROJECT OLONA RIVER ECOSYSTEM The Olona River Ecosystem is a project funded by Fondazione Cariplo, cofounded by the Inter-municipal Local Park Rile Tenore Olona with quotas coming from interventions realised within the framework of the Contatto di Fiume Olona - Bozzente - Lura and supported by the University of Insubria, Ferrovie Nord s.p.a. and Parco dei Mughetti.ISTITUTO OIKOS

Adaptation and mitigation strategies I decided to take part in the Oikos craft project: I like learning to make new objects with waste and I cannot wait to learn more. — Soe Myat New, beneficiary of the Lampi programme Since I joined the Oikos project I have been able to provide food for my children and allow them to study. Thank you so much! — Namayani Simoni, beneficiary of the S.A.F.E. Gardens project We set off thinking that we would learn more here than we would be able to teach, and it happened. Respect for everyone and everything brings us joy and gives us hope. — Diego and Gabriella, volunteers in Lampi Marine National Park We had known about the passion, the enthusiasm and the "folly" with which Oikos people pursue their objectives. We are proud to help out! — Renata e Tommaso, volunteers Renewable energy has the potential to unite people. United in the fight against energy poverty, in the fight against climate change. And with a positive solution: sun and wind. — Steven Vanholme, EKOenergy Programme Manager It is the first time that we have a well organised Water Consumer Association in our district. This is a big result and for us it is a guarantee of sustainability. — Michaeli Abeli Nanyaro, Secretary of the MAKILENGA Board Today we can gather water much more often because the distribution points are only a few minutes from home.
