NATURAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT IN LIBERIA This 16-month project aimed to strengthen communities’ participation in the peaceful management of Liberia’s natural resources. From 2005, there was a significant growth in investment in the iron ore and palm oil sectors in Liberia, and by 2015 the country stood at a crossroads. Clear and transparent management of its resources could drive development and enable citizens to HELPING INDIGENOUS PEOPLE IN THE PHILIPPINES BETTER In the Philippines, we help indigenous peoples like Paquing better assert and protect their rights. We ensure they are included in processes and decisions that affect their ancestral lands and vulnerability to conflict. Facilitated by Alert, Panglimas (tribal leaders) representing Pala’wan ancestral domain claimholders fromBrooke’s Point

RWANDA – 25 YEARS AFTER THE GENOCIDE Rwanda – 25 years after the genocide. In 1994, as many as 1,000,000 Rwandans lost their lives during a brutal 100 day genocide against the Tutsi. From 7 April to mid-July, the genocide spread from Rwanda's capital Kigali throughout the country, leaving over one million Tutsis dead and an estimated 2,000,000 people displaced. ZINDAGII SHOISTA: LIVING WITH DIGNITY The Zindagii Shoista (Living with Dignity) project was implemented by International Alert, Cesvi and three local partners – ATO, Farodis and Zanoni Sharq – in four villages in Tajikistan with 80 families. GENDER | INTERNATIONAL ALERT Gender. Conflict affects women, men, girls and boys in different ways, and gender inequality undermines the long-term prospects for peace and development. We help improve relations between women and men at home and in their communities, strengthening their capacity to respond peacefully to problems when they arise, and to build a peaceful CAN WE BUILD PEACE FROM A DISTANCE? The transition of peace dialogue and mediation to the virtual sphere is an example of the inadequacies of online engagement.
