LGBTQ immigrants in the United States encounter unique obstacles to securing protection and safety, particularly when caught up in the immigration enforcement and detention systems. One in four substantiated incidents of sexual abuse in immigration detention involved a transgender individual over a four-year period. Further, LGBTQ immigrants pursuing claims to protection that are related to KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: NEW GUIDELINES FOR ICE ENFORCEMENT Know Your Rights. If you have an encounter with someone you think may be an ICE officer, you still have a right to: Ask whether the officer is with ICE or CBP. Remain silent other than to ask to speak to an attorney. Refuse to open the door unless the officer has a warrantsigned by a judge.
