LESSONS LEARNED FROM A DECADE OF DEFENDING HOSPICES Hospice providers were under a microscope before the COVID-19 pandemic, but the focus on hospices may be even greater post-pandemic given an influx in federal funding and the dramatic change in processes caused by the pandemic. We have represented hospices in all manner of government audits and investigations for over 10 years, and have learned a number of ways to achieve HOW TO SAFELY TRANSFER PATIENTS TIPS FOR CHOOSING & USING AN SP02 MONITORING DEVICE Before applying a sensor, prepare the monitoring site by making sure the skin is clean and dry. Pulse oximetry sensors use an emitter to shine light through the application site and measure light that passes through the site using a detector. Upon sensor application, ensure that the optical components (the emitter and the detector) arealigned.
EMBRACING THE ROLE OF THE DEATH DOULA FOR YOUR HOSPICE Many people know about the role midwives and doulas play in managing pregnancy and childbirth, but few are familiar with the concept of the death midwife, also known as a death doula. This person helps patients and their loved ones cope during the end-of-life phase. Life and death are both natural processes, but many people struggle to come to terms with the emotional difficulties of dying. THE IMPORTANCE OF COMPLIANCE IN COMPRESSION THERAPY Compression therapy is key to the management of edema and is critical to boosting healing rates in venous leg ulcers (VLUs), acting to reduce venous hypertension and improve the flow of fluids in the lower extremities while standing and walking. Long-term use of compression is important to preventing ulcer reoccurrence. UNDERSTANDING SPO2 AND NORMAL OXYGEN LEVELS A normal SpO2 level is vital to maintaining the health of all tissue in the body. As previously mentioned, hypoxemia is low oxygen saturation in the blood. Hypoxemia is directly related to hypoxia, which is low oxygen saturation in the body’s tissue.
