Threatened by demolition in the 1970s, the building was acquired by the state and leased to Historic Richmond. The organization sublet the building to developers who have since created office spaces. Monumental Church served as an Episcopal church until 1965 when it was given to the MCV Foundation. It is now owned by Historic Richmond. An interior paint restoration has been completed, and the grounds have been restored. The church is available for weddings and open by appointment. Masons’ Hall is the oldest building in the United States erected for Masonic purposes and continuously used for that purpose. Due to its age, history of uses and association with important personages, Masons’ Hall at 1807 E. Franklin Street is one of Richmond’s most significant buildings. WESTWOOD (MCGUIRE COTTAGE) Historic Richmond is currently monitoring the Union Presbyterian Seminary’s development plan for a 36-acre tract in Sherwood Park that includes the historic Westwood house, locally known as McGuire Cottage..
