Tuesday, June 8, 2021. 10:30-11:30 am Join London Town in celebrating our 50th anniversary with lectures highlighting our past and future. The heart of London Town’s historic area is the c.1760 William Brown House, a National Historic Landmark. GARDENS | HISTORIC LONDON TOWN AND GARDENS | MARYLAND Learn about London Town's 10 acres of woodland and ornamental gardens MIDDLE PASSAGE UNESCO SITE OF MEMORY We remember the hundreds or perhaps thousands of survivors of the Middle Passage that were sold here between 1708 and 1760. The enslaved survivors were taken from the rich and varied cultures of Sierra Leone through Angola along the West African coast.SCHOOL TOURS

This week’s post continues the theme of communication by talking about taverns as post offices. The painting chosen for this week’s #TavernTales is John Lewis Krimmel’s Village Tavern from 1813-1814. Are you interested in having a photo shoot at London Town, or are you a professional photographer seeking somewhere to take milestone photos? LONDON TOWN AT 50: THE GARDENS THEN & NOW The Winter Walk overlook in the 1970s and today. In the 1960s, Anne Arundel County began working with the University of Maryland Extension program to turn several acres of land into gardens. The county partnered with professors R.L. Baker and C.N. Johnson, along with Dr. Tony Dove, London Town’s first horticulturalist, and created a plan to use the gardens to showcase what can grow in theWILLIAM BROWN HOUSE
The modern riverside porch of the historic William Brown House has become worn down and damaged. London Town will be working with Bleak Hill Restorations to repair the deterioration, ensuring a new, appropriate porch and stairs can be enjoyed by thousands of students and visitors each year.
