Raking was the whole plot treatment and herbicide was the subplot treatment. Herbicide treatments included Tenacity at 0.8 and 1.0 oz. a.i. per acre applied singly and three times sequentially on a two-week interval with 0.25 percent (v/v) non-ionic surfactant (R-11) or 0.25 percent (v/v) non-ionic surfactant plus 2.5 percent (v/v) UAN MANAGING ANTS ON PUTTING GREENS : GOLFDOM Pyrethroids (e.g., bifenthrin, lambda-cyhalothrin) and combination products that contain a pyrethroid work well to control ants, but be aware the control is only effective for about four weeks. Pyrethroids only knock back the worker ants. Research shows an early application of Proxy (ethephon) provides consistent Poa annua seedhead suppression. Annual bluegrass (Poa annua) seedhead suppression long has been among the more unpredictable turf management objectives faced by superintendents. One challenge is that annual bluegrass is one GOOD GREENS IN EARLY SPRING : GOLFDOM Mow only as the grass grows. Rely on rolling to get the greens firm, smooth and fast. Or at least fast by spring. standards. Lastly, don’t force leaf growth by over-fertilizing with nitrogen. Apply minimal nitrogen in early spring, no more than 0.25 lbs. nitrogen per 1,000 sq. ft.
