The Garden Museum explores and celebrates British gardens and gardening through its collection, temporary exhibitions, events andgarden.
ARCHIVE - GARDEN MUSEUM Archive. The Archive of Garden Design opened in 2019 to preserve for posterity and provide access to the working records of the 20th – and 21st -century’s leading British garden designers, together with the writers and photographers who have interpreted their work. Guest curated by floral designer and writer Shane Connolly, this new exhibition will explore Spry’s exceptional life, achievements and legacy, with exclusive access to her archive at the RHS Lindley Library. They loom large in the imagination—a locus of desire, aspiration, colonisation, care, effort, property, land and ownership, loss and literature. Rough Trade Books partnered with the Garden Museum to create a set of pamphlets examining all ofthese

BEHIND THE SCENES AT BRITISH FLOWERS WEEK We are in the midst of British Flowers Week, the busiest week in the Garden Museum calendar! Our annual exhibition in partnership with New Covent Garden Flower Market celebrates the beauty and variety of British-grown flowers, as well as the immense talent in floral design flourishing nationwide. This year we were delighted to welcome HRH HISTORY - GARDEN MUSEUM The history behind the Garden Museum dates from the medieval era to the present day. The Garden Museum was founded by Rosemary and John Nicholson in 1977 in order to rescue the abandoned church of St Mary’s at Lambeth, which was due for demolition. The church is the burial place of John Tradescant (c1570 – 1638), the first greatgardener

Sir Roy is giving The Laskett to Perennial, the Gardeners’ Benevolent Fund, joining York Gate in Yorkshire and Fuller’s Mill in Suffolk as gardens in their care and open to the public. St Mary-at-Lambeth. The first church on the site was built before the Norman Conquest and was integral to the religious centre established by the Archbishops of Canterbury in the twelfth century. The structure was deconsecrated in 1972. The church is the oldest structure in the Borough of Lambeth, except for the crypt of Lambeth Palace itself A PAVILION FOR LAMBETH GREEN: ARCHITECTURAL COMPETITION The Garden Museum wishes to build a pavilion as the entrance to Lambeth Green, a new green public realm and park to be created around the Museum to the designs of Dan Pearson Studio. CONSTANCE SPRY AND THE FASHION FOR FLOWERS This summer the Garden Museum will be celebrating the doyenne of flowers, the 20 th century’s most influential floral decorator, Constance Spry. Guest curated by floral designer and writer Shane Connolly, this new exhibition will explore Spry’s exceptional life, achievements and legacy, with exclusive access to her archive at the RHS Lindley Library. DEREK JARMAN ONLINE EXHIBITION This summer, to celebrate the Art Fund’s successful campaign to rescue Derek Jarman’s Cottage for the nation, the Garden Museum is holding the first exhibition to focus on his garden, Derek Jarman: My Garden’s Boundaries are the Horizon. Digging deeper into the stories told in My Garden’s Boundaries are the Horizon, this online exhibition looks at Derek’s garden, art, activism LAMBETH GREEN: A VISION FOR A GREEN URBAN NEIGHBOURHOOD It is the heritage – and future – of our neighbourhood which is at risk. And, we believe, we have a better future to offer. Since 2018 we have working on a vision for a new urban landscape for 5.3 acres of public realm adjacent to the Museum to be master-planned by Dan Pearson. Lambeth Green. JOIN OUR FIGHT FOR THE SUN! Join our fight for the sun! Today the Garden Museum launches a campaign to save the sunlight in London’s parks, playgrounds, and wildlife. SUPER NATURE ONLINE EXHIBITION This boutique art fair shows a curated selection of artists whose work celebrates the joy of plants, flowers and gardens. From oil paintings to photography, collages to print-making, the fair offers an abundance of affordable art to appeal to both garden and art lovers alike. EVENT - STUDY DAY WITH GEORGE CARTER The study day will take place partly in the converted barn beside George’s farmhouse (with room for social distancing) and partly within his formal gardens.GARDEN CAFÉ

Sir Roy is giving The Laskett to Perennial, the Gardeners’ Benevolent Fund, joining York Gate in Yorkshire and Fuller’s Mill in Suffolk as gardens in their care and open to the public. The structure was deconsecrated in 1972. The church is the oldest structure in the Borough of Lambeth, except for the crypt of Lambeth Palace itself A PAVILION FOR LAMBETH GREEN: ARCHITECTURAL COMPETITION The Garden Museum wishes to build a pavilion as the entrance to Lambeth Green, a new green public realm and park to be created around the Museum to the designs of Dan Pearson Studio. This pavilion will be a permanent structure to house the horticultural staff, volunteers and trainees to maintain the new 5.3 acreEVENT - TALK
