Teaching Material. See also the page on Learning GAP, which refers to material that may help you if you want to learn GAP on your own or to teach it. GAP has been used in lecture courses of various levels, both for providing examples and for creating teaching material, in particular exercises. VECTOR SPACES, MODULES AND ALGEBRAS Vector Spaces, Modules and Algebras. Vector spaces over fields and modules over rings can be defined when the coefficient domain is available in GAP. Note, however, that the range of implemented methods will depend on the coefficient domain. FINITELY PRESENTED GROUPS Finitely Presented Groups. It follows from the well known theorems on the algorithmic unsolvability of the word problem and related problems that there are no deterministic methods to answer most questions about the structure of finitely presented groups. INFORMATION FOR GAP PACKAGE AUTHORS The interface between GAP and a GAP package consists of two or three files PackageInfo.g, init.g and read.g. The first of these contains meta information on a package for loading and (possibly) distribution. Probably the easiest way to create it to use the PackageInfo.g file from the Example package, which has detailed comments on each entry. Some of these are parts of the core GAP system, while some others are technically GAP packages and must be loaded using the LoadPackage mechanism.. Data libraries which are parts of the core GAP system: ALTERNATIVE WAYS OF GETTING GAP If you have installed Docker, first you need to download the GAP container using. docker pull gapsystem/gap-docker. After that, you may just type. docker run --rm -i -t gapsystem/gap-docker gap. to start GAP. Note that you may have to run it with sudo, particularly if you are on Ubuntu. Further instructions could be found here .GUAVA - GAP SYSTEM
GUAVA is a GAP package for computing with codes. GUAVA can construct unrestricted (non-linear), linear and cyclic codes; transform one code into another (for example by puncturing); construct a new code from two other codes (using direct sums for example); perform decoding/error-correction; and can calculate important data of codes(such as the

However if you look up a. group-theory text book, e.g. Huppert, Endliche Gruppen I, Chapter V, Paragraph 8, p. 495 ff 'Frobeniusgruppen' you will find manynecessary.

GAP - Groups, Algorithms, Programming - a System for Computational Discrete Algebra The current version is GAP 4.11.1 releasedon 02 March 2021.
WHAT IS GAP?
GAP is a system for computational discrete algebra, with particular emphasis on Computational Group Theory . GAP provides a programming language, a library of
thousands of functions implementing algebraic algorithms written in the GAP language as well as large data libraries of algebraic objects. See also the overview and the description of the mathematical capabilities . GAP is used in research and teaching for studying groups and their representations, rings, vector spaces, algebras, combinatorial structures, and more. The system, including source, is distributed freely . You can study and easily modify or extend it for your special use. In July 2008, GAP was awarded the _ACM/SIGSAM Richard Dimick JenksMemorial Prize for
Excellence in Software Engineering applied to Computer Algebra_.HOW TO OBTAIN GAP?
The current release is GAP 4.11.1 and it can be obtained from our downloads page . This website describes this release if not stated otherwise. Changes from earlier versions are described in the Release history.
WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO HEARING FROM YOU! We welcome contributions to GAP. The GAP development repository is hosted on GitHub . You may find some guidance on contributing via GitHub here. If
you have any questions, or suggestions for GAP, the repository, or documentation, feel free to contact us via the open GAP developmentmailing list or
submit an issue or a pull request on GitHub. There is an extensive documentation advising how to write a GAP code. Also there is a guidance on developing a GAP package and its submissionto GAP.
The GAP Group welcomes contacts with the GAP users and offers support for them. To keep up to date on GAP news (discussion of problems, release announcements, bug fixes), we suggest you to subscribeto the
email-based GAP Forum . You may also follow GAP on Twitter . Please tell us about your use of GAP in research or teaching. We may well want to provide a link to your work. If your work is published then we ask you to cite GAP like a journal article or book. We maintain a Bibliography of publications citing GAP. Please help us keeping it up to date.ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
GAP has been and is developed by international cooperation of many people , including user contributions. We gratefully acknowledge all this help as well as some funding . GAP was started at Lehrstuhl D für Mathematik , RWTH Aachen in 1986. After 1997
the development
of GAP was coordinated in St Andrews . At present, the GAP Centersin Aachen
, Braunschweig
, Fort Collins
, Kaiserslautern
and St Andrews
are jointly coordinating the further development and maintenance of GAP. -------------------------The GAP Group
