P1: STATE LEGITIMACY The State Legitimacy Indicator considers the representativeness and openness of government and its relationship with its citizenry. MOZAMBIQUE | FRAGILE STATES INDEX BY NATALIE FIERTZ A combination of natural disasters, insurgent attacks, and a contested election resulted in another challenging year for Mozambique, which tied with Libya for the second-most worsened country on the 2020 Fragile States Index (FSI). SOMALIA | FRAGILE STATES INDEX State fragility is a complex and dynamic concept. In this Q&A with @newhumanitarian, @natehaken explains how COVID-19 affected 12indicators
TURKEY | FRAGILE STATES INDEX BY J.J. MESSNER. Though South Sudan has returned to top position on the annual Fragile States Index (FSI) for 2017, and Finland continues to maintain its position as the world’s least fragile country, the global tumult of the past year has been borne out in the Index’s trend analysis, as Ethiopia, Mexico, and Turkey recorded the greatest worsening over 2016. INDICATORS | FRAGILE STATES INDEX The Fragile States Index is based on a conflict assessment framework – known as “CAST” – that was developed by FFP nearly a quarter-century ago for assessing the vulnerability of states tocollapse.
