Current Hours: Open daily from 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM Closed at 2 p.m. on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. Closed entirely on New Year's Day, Easter Sunday, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Museum Admission: Admission to the Museum is by donation. We have a suggested donation of $10/person. Before the Revolutionary War, George Washington expressed concerns about the loss of lands west of the Appalachian Mountains to the ERIE EATS - ERIE CANAL MUSEUM We are excited to announce that the Erie Canal Museum was one of 13 non-profit organizations and municipalities to be awarded an Erie Canalway IMPACT! Grant in 2021. The grant will help fund Erie Eats: The Erie Canal Foodways Project. This project will showcase the diverse ways in which the Erie Canal radically impacted how people in New York State and beyond interacted with the most basicTHE ERIE CANAL

It was initially founded to save the Syracuse Weighlock Building from demolition. At the time the Museum was founded, it held no collections. Since then the collections have grown primarily through gifts. TICKETS - ERIE CANAL MUSEUM Timed tickets are recommended for visiting the Erie Canal Museum through the end of June. One party of up to 10 people is allowed to enter the Museum every 15 minutes. Each ticket is good for up to 10 people. Our suggested donation is $10/person. Beginning on July 1, the Museum will stop utilizing timed ticketing and resume welcomingwalk-in visitors.

It was initially founded to save the Syracuse Weighlock Building from demolition. At the time the Museum was founded, it held no collections. The Board of Trustees most recently approved our Collection Policy in October 2018. The Museum collects printed and manuscript materials, maps, photographs, motion picture film, digital materials, video and audio recordings (such as oral histories), paintings, artifacts and other items which: deal with the Enlarged Erie Canal, the Old Erie Canal, the New York State Barge Canal, the lateral TICKETS - ERIE CANAL MUSEUM Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, timed tickets are required to visit the Erie Canal Museum. The Erie Canal Made New York This is the Erie Canal Museum’s new permanent first floor exhibit, which was years in the making and finally completed in 2015. This comprehensive exhibit details the history and construction of the Canal, from earliest conception to the modern Barge Canal System. The exhibit features many remarkable images and artifacts from the ECM permanent collection.ADMISSION DONATION

EXPERIENCE THE GREAT AMERICAN ADVENTURE STORY OF THE ERIE CANAL. The Erie Canal Museum located in Downtown Syracuse, NY, is dedicated showcasing the 1850 National Register Weighlock Building, the last remaining structure of its kind, and to telling the incredible adventure story of the Erie Canal. Come aboard a full size replica canal boat. Explore life in a canal town. Experience a part of history that played an imperative role in the growth and development of the United States. The Erie Canal Museum is a must-see for adults and children of all ages! The Erie Canal Museum is partially funded by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. GRANT FROM THE ERIE CANALWAY NATIONAL HERITAGE CORRIDOR TO SUPPORT ERIE EATS: THE ERIE CANAL FOODWAYS PROJECT DATES: JANUARY 14, 2021 - OCTOBER 31, 2021 We are excited to announce that the Erie Canal Museum was one of 13 non-profit organizations and municipalities to be awarded an Erie Canalway IMPACT! Grant in 2021. The grant will help fund Erie Eats: The Erie Canal Foodways Project.
