A RECRUITER’S GUIDE TO TALENT SEGMENTATION One of the toughest challenges that recruitment organizations face is understanding who is in their talent community, how one candidate is different from another, and then how to best attract and engage with them. The best place to start is by grouping contacts by similar characteristics (e.g. career goals, skills, experience, readiness to change jobs, etc.), and then building a strategy for STEPS IN DEVELOPING A RECRUITING STRATEGY Very much like a roadmap you use when traveling, a recruiting strategy tells you where, when, and what you need to do in order to meet organizational goals. More specifically, it gives the recruiting department (and the recruiting professionals in it) a focus and a direction. A recruiting strategy gives recruiting managers guidance about what they should do more of and less of. It also helps HOLD YOUR OWN JOB FAIR IN ONE WEEK So many of us have wasted days going to local job fairs to come home with, well, nothing to show for it. Holding a company job fair at your location or a neutral space is a great way for your company to see a ton of employees who want to work for you all in one location at a time. One company I worked with eventually stopped spending money on job fairs and now hosts its own once or twice a MOTIVATING EMPLOYEES TO MAKE REFERRALS Well-designed corporate referral programs can produce amazing results. Unfortunately, those results are often reduced by failing to maximize the number and type of motivators that drive employees to make high-quality referrals. In some organizations, 30% of the employees make all of the referrals, with the other 70% of employees being inactive. I have found that data-driven referral 62 INTERVIEW QUESTIONS PEOPLE SAID WERE THEIR FAVORITES A contest for people to submit their favorite interview questions yielded the interesting, the odd, the useful, the insightful, and the obscene. They included such questions as: “What is your favorite palindrome?” and “Why did America stop selling War Bonds?” And some I can't publish without washing my own mouth out with soap. The contest, put on by VoiceGlance, ran in a 10-week period HOW TO WRITE AN INMAIL SUBJECT LINE THAT GETS RESULTS The first line of her reply was, “Great subject line – I can clearly see your recruiting roots.”. My last example is my communication with VP Talent Acquisition at Motorola Mobility, Neil Davies. His LinkedIn profile details an interesting and progressive career path.
