Design NJ: What were the drawbacks of the apartment’s original layout? Gary Rosard: The building is high up on a hill, so it’s got amazing views all around. The original space didn’t take advantage of the expansiveness of the view. His etchings probably inspired the comical figures on this octagonal plate made in Moustiers around 1763. KEEPING COOL IN AVALON Town History & Amenities Formed in 1723 as part of Middle Township and incorporated as a borough in 1892, Avalon shares Seven Mile Island with neighboring Stone Harbor.The town has a rich and colorful history: legend has it that pirates buried treasure on the island and that Henry Hudson dropped anchor offshore during his travels. The town slogan is “Cooler by a Mile,” a phrase coined A NEW COLOR PALETTE BALANCES OLD & NEW IN RUMSON In Rumson, an intriguing palette balances old and new. The décor inside this stately, early-20th-century home leaned toward the classic, as might be expected. However, during a renovation of some of the spaces, the owners decided there should be a subtle tweak. “They wanted to go a little more modern than in some of the surroundingrooms
BAUHAUS NESTING TABLES Although Albers is known most for his work as an abstract painter and theorist, he is remembered also for his Bauhaus Nesting Tables, which he designed while serving as artistic director of the furniture workshop at the Bauhaus in 1926-1927.
