For the early church, the table was a celebration of resurrection life, a declaration of God’s love and faithfulness, and a reminder of our need to commune with God in order to grow in God. The Eucharist is an endless mystery, and our 10 TIPS FOR HANDLING SOMEONE WHO DOMINATES A DISCUSSION 10 Tips for handling someone who dominates a discussion. I’m a big proponent of having church be a space where we talk together about God, rather than a space where people come to listen to one “expert” talk about God.ORIGINAL BLESSING
In this book, Danielle Shroyer takes readers through an overview of the historical development of the doctrine, pointing out important missteps and overcalculations, and providing alternative ways to approach often-used Scriptures. Throughout, she brings the primary claims of original sin to their untenable (and unbiblical)conclusions.
MOLTMANN MONDAY: THE TRINITY AND PERICHORESIS God exists as Father, Son and Holy Spirit by virtue of God’s love. The Trinity is a mutual indwelling where energy is shared. And God opens up this perichoretic dance to include us and all of creation, so that we may become energized by the life-giving force of God. In other words, salvation, restoration, healing, wholeness. WHAT DO YOU SEE? A SERMON ON JOHN 9 Here’s the sermon I gave last night at Journey. It’s the last thing I’ll say about what happened at WorldVision last week. And, as with all sermons, it’s better heard than read, so I put the sarcastic bits in italics. Today’s story from John 9—and it’s along
MOLTMANN MONDAY: OUR ULTIMATE HOPE...AND SOME ADVENT God is waiting. To be able to wait is the strongest strength. God is patient with us and puts up with us. God gives us time and gives us future. God is waiting for the homecoming of those he has created. Hope is not blind. It is not blind optimism. It is not blind to the pains of the world. It is not blind to our own very real failings.| DANIELLE SHROYER

A few of the places she has spoken are the Evolving Faith Conference, the New Story Festival, Why Christian?, the Frederick Buechner Writing Workshop, and Christianity21. Danielle has also been the guest of numerous podcasts related to her MOLTMANN MONDAY: ON ANXIETY, AND JESUS Moltmann Monday: On Anxiety, and Jesus. It’s a cold and rainy Presidents Day here in Dallas this Moltmann Monday morning. I hope you are well where you find yourself. What I do know is that many of us are suffering from, or at least encountering, a good bit of anxiety these days, so today’s selection is from Jesus Christ for Today’sWorld.
JESUS WAS A MINORITY Jesus was a minority. And we are racist. It’s a sin worth confessing. It’s a sin worth noticing, at the very least. Because in the same way we can delude ourselves into thinking blue-eyed Jesus is accurate and acceptable, we can deny our own complicitySIN IS VIOLENCE
Sin is Violence. This Moltmann Monday I’m continuing the section I quoted in part last week in The Way of Jesus Christ when Moltmann is discussing whether there is a Christian ethic or not. He says there is, of course, which we can see clearly in the Sermon on the Mount. And the first ethic he mentions as a sub-category is the messianicpeace.
A DESCRIPTION OF THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SABBATH AND SUNDAY Sabbath begins, according to Jewish custom, on Friday evening at sundown, and ends on Saturday evening. During this time, practicing Sabbath is to do as God did; to rest from work and to enjoy creation. Jesus did this, as did his disciples. Now, for Sunday, which is a little more complicated. Sunday is originally named after the Sun,which was
THE WORD: PERICHORESIS Perichoresis is a Greek word. It’s made by a combination of two words: Chora, a noun which means “space” and the verb form, chorein, which means to make space, and peri which means “around”. So perichoresis, roughly translated, means to make space around. More specifically, it refers to the way in which someone or something makes MOLTMANN MONDAY: RESURRECTION Moltmann Monday: Resurrection. Happy Easter, all! Today’s MM quote comes from The Way of Jesus Christ in his chapter on the Eschatological Resurrection of Christ. Moltmann succintly distinguishes the Easter event from springtime cycles of life, which I think is a helpful thing for us to consider: The rhythms of creation- night to day, winter WHAT DOES THE WORD "VOTIVE" MEAN? The word votive means something offered in accordance with a vow.MENU
