ANNOUNCING CREATEJS 1.0 Hello Again, World! We are happy to announce the (long-awaited) release of CreateJS version 1.0! This release introduces major improvements, wraps up features and bugs, and brings all libraries to the same version number! DEPRECATING FUNCTIONALITY IN CREATEJS 1.0 So, Why Now? We have actually deprecated plenty of behaviours and APIs throughout the lifecycle of CreateJS. But the upgrade to 1.0 has a fairly large number of deprecated methods and properties, even ranging back a few versions, that will likely be removed in the next major release, and we wanted a more visible warning to developers. Users of Adobe Animate HTML documents in particular WEBGL & EASELJS: A TECHNICAL INTRO WebGL & EaselJS: a Technical Intro. Our past experiments demonstrated that there is no benefit to building a general purpose WebGL renderer for EaselJS. Modern canvas implementations already do a great job at rendering arbitrary 2D content on the GPU, and they use native code to do the heavy lifting. We’re not going to beat them in JS. We are happy to formally introduce StageGL, a better, faster, more feature-rich WebGL renderer for EaselJS. It removes restrictions, boosts performance, and adds filter support. Most importantly, unlike its predecessor, StageGL is a drop-in replacement for the CreateJSStage.

GETTING STARTED WITH STAGEGL I don’t like the image quality. By default, WebGL can appear pixelated or jagged, changing this requires specific content. Firstly all your image sources need to be square and have dimensions which are Power-of-Two (1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048, etc). NEW COMMAND APPROACH TO EASELJS GRAPHICS The Graphics class in EaselJS has remained largely unchanged since it was first introduced in v0.2. It worked by generating an immutable list of generic command objects that would draw vector graphics into a context. In EaselJS v0.8.0, we did some major re-modeling. A common performance trick in EaselJS is to layer multiple Stages, and only update content on the Stage instance that changes. For example, a background might contain an complex scene with interactive elements or UI, and an overlapping foreground scene TWEENJS V1.0.0 API DOCUMENTATION : EASE The Ease class provides a collection of easing functions for use with TweenJS. It does not use the standard 4 param easing signature. Instead it uses a single param which indicates the current linear ratio (0 to 1) of the tween. Inheritance WEBGL & EASELJS: A TECHNICAL INTRO Our past experiments demonstrated that there is no benefit to building a general purpose WebGL renderer for EaselJS. Modern canvas implementations already do a great job at rendering arbitrary 2D content on the GPU, and they use native code to do the heavy lifting. DEPRECATING FUNCTIONALITY IN CREATEJS 1.0 So, Why Now? We have actually deprecated plenty of behaviours and APIs throughout the lifecycle of CreateJS. Users of Adobe Animate HTML documents in particular NEW COMMAND APPROACH TO EASELJS GRAPHICS The Graphics class in EaselJS has remained largely unchanged since it was first introduced in v0.2. It worked by generating an immutable list of generic command objects that would draw vector graphics into a context. In EaselJS v0.8.0, we did some major re-modeling. PERFORMANCE IN EASELJS EaselJS is a very performance sensitive library. We’ve always worked hard to optimize code as we went, but with this release we put a lot of work into not only making things faster, but actively measuring improvements, and holding ourselves accountable for the GETTING STARTED WITH STAGEGL I don’t like the image quality. By default, WebGL can appear pixelated or jagged, changing this requires specific content. Firstly all your image sources need to be square and have dimensions which are Power-of-Two (1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048, etc). UPDATE: WIDTH & HEIGHT IN EASELJS Since my previous post discussing why we don’t support width & height in EaselJS, I decided to polish off and include a bounds solution we had previously roughed out.. It comprises three new methods available on all display objects: getBounds(), getTransformedBounds(), and setBounds(). The getBounds() method will return the bounds of the object in the object’s local coordinatesystem
