As a former fashion designer, I used to love the endless choices of materials that modern technology has brought to us. However, witnessing the process of mass production and the rush of fast fashion, I became aware of our urgent need to design in more environmentally friendly ways.RESTORATION VALUES

Born in 1936 in Mansfield, Ohio, Thomas Gentille is an eminent studio jeweler with more than half a century of experience in the field. Gentille first envisioned a career as an artist under the mentorship of teacher Clay Walker, and he attended the Cleveland Institute of Art at Walker’s recommendation. WHAT IS THE MOST REWARDING ASPECT OF YOUR WORK? Without question, the most rewarding aspect of my work is the making. The process of moving from idea to fully realized piece is a thrill every time. For me, the challenge is finding a fluidity and ease in the creation of new work: a balance between tenacious problem solving and openness to a new outcome. Shores was known not only for his exceptional sculptural work in clay, but also his work as an educator, collector, and arts administrator. He was 85 years old. Born in 1936 in Mansfield, Ohio, Thomas Gentille is an eminent studio jeweler with more than half a century of experience in the field. Gentille first envisioned a career as an artist under the mentorship of teacher Clay Walker, and he attended the Cleveland Institute of Art at Walker’s recommendation. ACC AT THE MINNESOTA STATE FAIR Demonstrating our interest in recognizing, amplifying, and supporting craft practitioners who have deep roots in Minnesota, the American Craft Council is awarding two artists in the Creative Activities building at the Minnesota State Fair this August.
