STATEMENT AGAINST RACISM & HATEIN THE OUTDOORS
Colorado Mountain Club explicitly condemns racism, hate, and all systems and behavior that erode the safety of the Black Community, Indigenous Peoples, and other Communities of Color. Incidences of hate and racism in the outdoors are not isolated to Ahmaud Arbery running in Georgia or Christian Cooper birding in New York City’s Central Park. All over the country––including right here in Colorado––people of color disproportionately face suspicion, unprovoked confrontations, and other dangers in the outdoors solely because of the color of their skin. We must educate ourselves & our community, and work to ensure that the Black Community, Indigenous Community, & other Communities of Color have equitable access to, and feel safe and welcome recreating in Colorado's outdoors.READ FULL STATEMENT
