BEAVERS – NUISANCES OR WATERSHED HEROES? Beavers can take over valuable land with their ponds and are infamous for flooding roads. Because beavers are looking for water that is flowing and a stream width that is easy to dam up, culverts are often a target for beavers. Obviously, this leads to flooding issues, as blocking up a culvert means a quickly flooding roadway. Potential Copper Cliff Mine in Blackfoot Valley. Near the old mining ghost town of Garnet, at the headwaters of Union Creek above the lush, rural Potomac valley, there’s an outcrop of rock stained iridescent blue and green with copper minerals. LOWER CLARK FORK
After collecting the Bitterroot, Blackfoot, and Flathead rivers, the Lower Clark Fork becomes deep and wide as it flows toward its terminus in Lake Pend Oreille. Here, creeks cascade through lush forests, providing critical habitat for the threatened native bull trout, Montana’s state fish. FLATHEAD - CLARK FORK COALITION Flathead. The Flathead subbasin is one of the most pristine river systems in the Lower 48, boasting Flathead Lake–the largest freshwater lake in the West–as well as the wild and wonderful South, North and Middle Forks of the Flathead River. It also sustains large agricultural operations and some of the fastest growing communities inMontana.

Obviously, this leads to flooding issues, as blocking up a culvert means a quickly flooding roadway. WHAT IS RIVER REC MONITORING? Ask anyone at the Clark Fork Coalition what the best thing about living in the Missoula is, and the answer is unanimous: the rivers. Missoulians are rich in river recreation opportunities, and you don’t have to work at a river conservation organization to see the values that a river flowing through town provides—just take a stroll down the river trail on any given day and you’ll see NEW UPPER CLARK FORK WATER TEMPERATURE GAGE The Garrison site is located along an integral stretch of the upper Clark Fork River (from a fisheries perspective) and has experienced drought conditions and warm water temperatures (in excess of 75°F) over the past two summers. These warm water temperatures prompted FWP to close the upper Clark Fork River to fishing during 2015 and 2016.Skip to content
