ACCESSING YOUR FILE
The CLA believes that all social care organisations should work in an open and honest way with care leavers. To help you with the process of accessing your care files the CLA has created a free guide for care leavers, which provides information on how to access childhood carefiles.
MORE SUPPORT FOR CARE LEAVERS The scheme is made up of two parts – a guaranteed payment to a small group of the most vulnerable, and a discretionary fund for schools and colleges to distribute: 16-19 year olds who are in care, care leavers or on income support will be given guaranteed bursaries of £1,200. There is now overwhelming evidence of widespread abuse during past decades that went largely unpunished and largely unnoticed outside the care system. Legislation, including the Children Act 1989 and Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000, has made few significant improvements in outcomes for these care leavers – the number engaged with the Criminal Justice System has remained constant across the last decade, according to data produced by the GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES CARE REVIEW Government Announces Care Review. Today Friday 15th January 2021 the government finally launched a review of the care system. “The Care Leavers Association welcomes today’s announcement from the UK government of the start of the promised review of children’s social care. We have also undertaken a survey of health professionals with over 150 responses. The report and tools were all developed by talking to care leavers. Access to Records Information Booklet. The CLA has compiled a booklet entitled ‘A Guide to Accessing Childhood Case Records’. The booklet is the best source of information available on this topic and may also be useful to Access to Records Officers employed by localauthorities.

Final Report. We have now come to the end of the Department of Health funded work. We have the pleasure in attaching the Final Report Caring For Better Health, a Toolkit for Commissioners and 45 Ways, a leaflet to help professionals working with care leavers. Health outcomes for care leavers are poorer than non- care peers. FAZAKERLEY COTTAGE HOMES REUNION 2011 Fazakerley Cottage Homes Reunion 2011. The cottage homes were set up by the West Darby Association, a group of local philanthropists, in the late nineteenth century. The site has a main central building that looks like a cross between a church and a town hall. On either side of the road through the site are the ‘cottages’.
