The photographers here are taking charge of their narratives, documenting their communities, and shedding light on Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) cultures. Cheyenne Julien's artistic practice begins by harnessing her memories of childhood in the Bronx. Arts Fund (AF) develops Bronx artists and small arts organizations through its support of high-quality arts projects that engage Bronx audiences in a diverse array of artistic works in all disciplines, genres, and styles. Bronx-based individual artists, artist collectives and 501c3 arts organizations with an organizational budget below $100,000 may apply for grants of up to $5,000 that BRONX MEMOIR PROJECT 2018-2019 Anthology Series. The 2018-2019 BMP culminated in the Bronx Memoir Project Volume III Anthology and book launched in June 2019. We thank the 113 participants, 43 Anthology contributors, 11 teaching artists, and Project Coordinator Crystal Valentine for the success of this year’s program. BRONX RECOGNIZES ITS OWN (BRIO) Bronx Recognizes Its Own (BRIO) provides direct support to individual Bronx artists who create works in the literary, media, visual, and performing arts.BCA awards grants up to $5,000 to Bronx artists each year, based solely on artistic excellence. Winners complete a one-time public service activity known as Artists for Community Enrichment (ACE), an essential component required of all BRIOGARINAGU PROJECT
The Garifuna culture that was born on St. Vincent when a slave ship capsized and the African captives swam to freedom is greatly influenced by African culture. THE RHYTHM OF LIFE: CAPOEIRA DANCE & DRUM FOR SENIORS The mix of dance, drumming and call and response singing will provide an extraordinary experience to give creative expression to the fight our seniors have waged all their lives to live with dignity in a harshurban environment.
