WORRIES ABOUT FOREMILK AND HINDMILK A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing. This has never been so true as in the ongoing debate about foremilk and hindmilk and their impact on breastfeeding. The misunderstandings around these concepts have caused anxiety, upset, and even led to breastfeeding problems and premature weaning. The 2003 edition of The Breastfeeding Answer Book defines these terms this way: “The TELL ME ABOUT TONGUE TIES! Tongue and lip ties, like the webs of skin between your thumbs and index fingers, do not suddenly shrink, stretch, or disappear. Tongue and lip ties can affect a baby's ability to breastfeed. Breastfeeding Counselor candidates complete a comprehensive education course designed to prepare candidates to deliver our mission of providing evidence-based breastfeeding information and support and promoting breastfeeding as the biological and cultural norm. To do this, subtract from 30 ounces (900 mL) the amount of formula your baby receives each day.
