The critical BORATES IN INSULATION Glass wool works by trapping air within its mesh of fibers—reducing the rate of heat transfer. The most important role of borates in these glass fibers is to increase absorbance of infrared radiation, which significantly increases the insulation performance of the roll, batt, or wool. In glass wool manufacturing, borates also act as a NEOBOR | CONCENTRATED SODIUM BORATE | U.S. BORAX Neobor®, the most common form of sodium borate used in industry, offers low transportation, handling, and storage costs thanks to its concentrated form. Stable under ordinary conditions, free-flowing, and easily handled by air or mechanical conveying, Neobor puts the benefits of boron within easy reach for multiple industries. BORATES IN WOOD PROTECTION AND BIOCIDE Borax protects wood and wood-product construction and materials from fire, fungi, and pests. Borates and boron compounds are used in the creation of affordable, durable, and environmentally safe treatment in a variety of wood and wood plastics composite (WPC) applications. BORATES IN FIRE RETARDANCY Although its applications are extensive and varied, Firebrake ZB is a multipurpose synergist in both halogen-containing and halogen-free polyolefin.Firebrake 500 is an anhydrous form of Firebrake ZB that is specially designed for applications in which no water evolution is permitted. Because it contains no water of hydration, it is stable up to 1112°F (600°C). FIREBRAKE | BORATE FLAME RETARDANT PRODUCTS | U.S. BORAX Firebrake 500. NEVER ANOTHER CHERNOBYL: BORON IN NUCLEAR ENERGY HELPS Boron is widely used in the shielding, control, and safety of nuclear reactors. By absorbing neutron radiation during nuclear fission, boron controls the rate of the reaction and can even slow or stop it—without itself fissioning. Boron helps keep nuclear power safe as it provides clean, reliable, sustainable fuel for modern living. AGRONOMY NOTES: BORON APPLICATIONS FOR INCREASED GRAPE Results have shown that boron applications may improve grape yield and quality when boron soil test levels are less than 0.4 ppm in sandy soils which have been limed to pH 6.2 or higher, and less than 0.5 ppm in fine-textured soils which have been limed to pH 6.0 or higher. The critical level of boron in the top mature grape leaves is about 20 BORATES IN WOOD PROTECTION AND BIOCIDE Borax protects wood and wood-product construction and materials from fire, fungi, and pests.
