BRUNO MANSER
Bruno Manser, one of the founders of the Bruno Manser Fund and for many years its chair, was during his lifetime the best-known Swiss rainforest campaigner and human-rights activist. From 1984 until 1990, he lived amongst the Penan people in Sarawak, who were then one of the last groups on earth to still be living as nomads in the primevalforest.

The Bruno Manser Fund is helping them file successful land-rights claims by ensuring that they are assisted by qualified lawyers. It also provides general support to the Penan communities by accompanying them throughout the drawn-out legal proceedings. THE BARAM PEACE PARK Together with the Bruno Manser Fonds, the Penan came up with the idea of a rainforest park in the north of Sarawak in 2009. The idea has been taken further since then, with the neighbouring ethnic groups of the Kenyah, Saban and Kelabit now also involved. Our Association. The Bruno Manser Fund (BMF), Association for the Peoples of the Rainforest, is a non-profit association based in Basel (Switzerland). It was set up in 1991 by the environmental activist Bruno Manser. The Bruno Manser Fund is helping them file successful land-rights claims by ensuring that they are assisted by qualified lawyers. It also provides general support to the Penan communities by accompanying them throughout the drawn-out legal proceedings. THE BARAM PEACE PARK Together with the Bruno Manser Fonds, the Penan came up with the idea of a rainforest park in the north of Sarawak in 2009. The idea has been taken further since then, with the neighbouring ethnic groups of the Kenyah, Saban and Kelabit now also involved. Der Bruno Manser Fonds hat viele Gesichter. Zahlreiche Menschen haben seine Geschichte geprägt und viele tragen dazu bei, die Aufgaben sorgfältig und wirkungsvoll zu erfüllen. ERNEUERBARE ENERGIEN STATT STAUDÄMME 2008 sickerte durch, dass die Regierung von Sarawak eine Serie von 12 Staudämmen im Regenwald bauen wollte. Dank einer unermüdlichen Kampagne des Bruno Manser Fonds und seiner lokalen Partnerorganisationen konnte der umstrittenste der Staudämme, der Baram-Staudamm, 2016 gestoppt werden. Beim Volk der Penan im Bundesstaat Sarawak auf Borneo wurde er fündig. Nachdem er mehrere Jahre mit ihnen gelebt hatte, erreichten die Bulldozer der Holzgesellschaften den Wald der Penan. Bruno Manser fing an, sich für den Schutz des Waldes zu engagieren, und gründete 1992 nach seiner Rückkehr aus Sarawak den Bruno Manser Fonds. Im Jahr 2000 verschwand Bruno Manser auf rätselhafte Weise spurlos im Regenwald von Sarawak. Der Bruno Manser Fonds führt sein Vermächtnis weiter und setzt sich für die Penan und den Erhalt des Regenwaldsein.
