ARDUINO 1.8.13 HAS BEEN RELEASED Arduino 1.8.13 has been released. Arduino Team — June 17th, 2020. Today, we are excited to announce the arrival of the Arduino IDE 1.8.13. Significant improvements include fixing the crash on Mac OS X with multiple monitor setups and resolving the recent package_index.json issue without other user intervention. ARDUINO 1.8.12 IS OUT! Arduino 1.8.12 is out! Arduino Team — February 13th, 2020. Today, we are excited to announce the arrival of the Arduino IDE 1.8.12. Wow! Another release just after two weeks, you ask? Well, we fixed some serious bugs related to the compiler, and more importantly, we had to take a step back with respect to the transition to the new Java CHICKEN COOP DOOR AUTOMATION WITH ARDUINO When Geert Wanten’s wife got tired of opening up the chicken coop to let them out in the morning, he decided to automate the situation using an Arduino Nano. Wanten’s DIY system calculates the sunup/sundown via info from a DS1307 RTC module, pulling the door up with a gearmotor and a spool of fishing line. TOP 10 CREATIVE PROJECTS FROM ARDUINO DAY COMMUNITY CHALLENGE With over 170 creative projects sent in from around the world, choosing just 10 winners for the Arduino Day Community Challenge was almost impossible.. Hopefully you were with us on Arduino Day, and saw the winning projects being unveiled during the live stream. But we also wanted to send out another big congratulations to the inventive Arduino lovers who won. THE ARDUINO NANO RP2040 CONNECT IS HERE The RP2040 Processor. Working with the Raspberry Pi Foundation is nothing short of a pleasure. The teams there make some incredible devices, and their first in-house silicon is no exception. These guys get it. This system-on-a-chip is a 32-bit dual-core Arm Cortex-M0+ microcontroller, clocked at 133MHz and is powerful enough to runTensorFlow Lite.
WEAVING JUST GOT A LOT BETTER THANKS TO THIS ARDUINO Lea Albaugh and her team at Carnegie Mellon University found an affordable way to build a Jacquard loom from 3D printer parts — including an Arduino-based controller. The key development for this Jacquard loom was a special bistable switch for each heddle. Those switches keep their heddles in the position in which they were lastset.
NEW ARDUINO PRO IDE: A CLOSER LOOK The quickest way to get started developing for Arduino today. A simple, modern web app version of the Arduino IDE — with boards and libraries available without needing an install. Just open your web browser, head to create.arduino.cc/editor to get started. In the creation of the new Arduino Pro IDE, we chose to build on the Theiaframework.
TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR DASHBOARD The new dashboard for the Arduino IoT Cloud comes with a host of enhanced features. It allows you to gather and display data from multiple IoT devices in one dashboard, and control those devices as required through your dashboard to fully integrate your solution. ARDUINO IOT CLOUD: SUPPORT FOR ESP8266 AND OTHER THIRD But the one we’re most excited about is that the Arduino IoT Cloud has begun supporting a number of third party devices. Starting with the uber-popular ESP8266 by Espressif — NodeMCU, SparkFun’s ESP Thing, ESPDuino, and Wemos (to name a few) — along with other inexpensive, commercially available plugs and switches based on thismodule.

CREATE YOUR OWN LOW-COST CONTACTLESS IR THERMOMETER WITH In the age of COVID-19, being able to know when someone’s sick is vital, especially in countries where the disease is currently surging. It’s for this reason that Open Green Energy decided to build a battery-powered portable thermometer that not only takes a person’s temperature but alerts other if it’s too high as well. THIS SENSORY EXTENSION PUPPET LETS YOU DETECT MAGNETIC Birds have an amazing sense of direction that aids in migrating across vast distances, and scientists think this is due to their ability to detect magnetic fields — just like a compass. Chris Hill on Instructables wanted a way to experience this for himself by using a sensor and some sort of feedback mechanism to feel a magnetic field’s directionality and strength. EPILET IS A TINYML-POWERED BRACELET FOR DETECTING In addition to the physical device itself is an accompanying mobile app that handles the communication. When it receives seizure activity that lasts for at least 10 seconds from the Nano 33 BLE Sense, the app sends an SMS message to a contact of the user’s choice. DIY PERSEVERANCE ROVER REPLICA LOOKS AND MOVES LIKE NASA'S Dejan of How to Mechatronics created his own scaled-down version of NASA's Perseverance rover that not only looks great, but is able to drive and show what it’s “seeing” to the driver. THIS SYSTEM USES MACHINE LEARNING AND HAPTIC FEEDBACK TO The Baby Connect also has some more advanced features including baby activity monitoring and environmental logging. Because deaf parents are unable to hear the difference between certain cries, the Nano 33 BLE Sense that controls the device runs a model trained with Edge Impulse that can distinguish between cries for pain, hunger, andgeneral malaise.

JAMES BRUTON'S ROBOT USES THREE BALL-SHAPED WHEELS TO MOVE YouTuber James Bruton came up with a great design for a highly mobile robot platform that employs a novel wheel design to move in anydirection.
DIY PERSEVERANCE ROVER REPLICA LOOKS AND MOVES LIKE NASA'S 20 hours ago · Dejan of How to Mechatronics created his own scaled-down version of NASA's Perseverance rover that not only looks great, but is able to drive and show what it’s “seeing” to thedriver.
THIS DAD BUILT AN ADAPTIVE USB KEYBOARD FOR HIS SON AND Having a disability can severely impact one’s ability to perform tasks that others do regularly, such as eating, walking, or even speaking. One maker by the name of ‘gtentacle‘ has a son who needs to use a ventilator constantly in order to breathe as he suffers from a myotubular myopathy, a disease that greatly impacts the strength ofhis muscles.

ARDUINO NANO TURNED INTO UNIVERSAL IR TRANSLATOR Arduino Team — February 7th, 2019 After purchasing a new television, maker Andreas Spiess’ remote no longer worked seamlessly with the controller his family had been using. While a universal remote could have solved the problem, in order to keep things simple to use, he instead came up with an infrared “babel fish” signal translator—named after the language translation animal Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’s. The device receives infrared signals from the original remote, then uses an Arduino Nano to pass the properly translated pulses on to his TV and receiver. A 3W IR diode transmits these new signals with the help of an N-channel MOSFET, giving it enough power to control each component, even without the proper line-of-sight orientation. It’s a hack that could be useful in many situations, and Speiss goes over how it was made, along with design requirements in the videobelow.
