Published August 10, 2006 by Ben. Every week I must get at least three “Connect on LinkedIn?” emails — I’m sure you get them too. I used to get the occasional “If you joined LinkedIn you could hook up with your contact’s network” – presumably my colleagues/friends/contacts had given VB.LY IS DEAD, LONG LIVE VBLY.US (for those not familiar with the back story, check here). Having become clear Libya has no intention of ever releasing the vb.ly domain back to Violet, we have course-corrected by reopening her url shortening service under the new domain vbly.us.. We had originally pursued a number of other 2-letter options (eg xx.yy) to relaunch theservice under.
STOLENIDSEARCH.COM: ENCOURAGING USERS TO BE TOO CASUAL I don’t get it – why are we asking people to put their credit card numbers and social security number into StolenIDSearch.com? (It’s a site which claims it will search the Internet and files containing lists of exploited accounts/numbers).. Practically everyone in the industry has been persuading wider society not to put your this kind of information into unusual sites. AN OPEN "LETTER/BLOG POST" TO USERS FROM "BIASED BBC I seem to be getting quite a lot of hits via some postings that have been made about me on the very ammusing “Biased BBC” blog (do check it out, it’s well worth a quick chuckle). Apparently my harmless comments about George Bush wanting a toilet break have been taken as “views of a leftoid of a lefty institution” and other similar “you’re a left winger” stuff. WHEN YOUR ASSETS ARE NO LONGER MONETIZABLE: YAHOO! PHOTOS TechCrunch is reporting that Yahoo! will announce tomorrow that Yahoo! Photos is closing. I wonder whether this is the start of a trend of marque/top-tier asset storage sites (photos, movies, etc) closing because they can no longer monetize their services effectively – either through acquisition or diversification of other properties intheir portfolio.
