We will do this by working with our partners and businesses to care for the Belfast Hills. BELFAST HILLS WALKING GUIDE The following icons may be used to classify a walk on a hill. EASY ACCESS Walks for everyone, including people with wheelchairs & baby buggies. Help may be needed to push wheelchairs on some sections. Entrance gates may have to be opened to allow wheelchair access. Please phone the site warden before arrival to ensure gate will be open for you. Walkers can wear comfortable shoes or trainers DIVIS & THE BLACK MOUNTAIN Divis and the Black Mountain rest in the heart of the Belfast Hills and provide a backdrop to the cityscape. A mosaic of grassland and heathland bog, they are home to a host of wildlife and archaeological remains. Divis stands at 478 metres (1,562ft) and Black Mountain at 390 metres (1,275ft).PEOPLE OF THE BHP

Directors are nominated from the statutory, community and local government sectors. People nominated from the three sectors of statutory, land owning/managing and community, sit on SLIEVENACLOY NATURE RESERVE Slievenacloy Nature Reserve is a hidden retreat of species-rich grassland famous for its beautiful orchids in early summer. Its name Sliabhna Cloiche means ‘townland of the stone’, most likely a sacred landscape during the Neolithic and Bronze Ages with eight prehistoric burial monument recorded. CAVE HILL COUNTRY PARK Cave Hill Trail. This is a challenging 4.5 mile (7.2km) circular route beginning at Belfast Castle and following the green way-marked arrows. It can also start from Belfast Zoo car park, Upper Hightown Road or Upper Cavehill Road. The junior orienteering course also takes in thisroute.

CHCC Series: The Archaeology of Cave Hill. Saturday 18 September, 2021 10:00am. Local archaeologist Cormac McSparron will lead a trip to the various remains on the hill from the Neolithic period to the early Christian period. Meet at the entrance to Cave Hill Country Park at the top of the Upper. DIVIS & THE BLACK MOUNTAIN Divis and the Black Mountain rest in the heart of the Belfast Hills and provide a backdrop to the cityscape. A mosaic of grassland and heathland bog, they are home to a host of wildlife and archaeological remains. Divis stands at 478 metres (1,562ft) and Black Mountain at 390 metres (1,275ft). THE BELFAST HILLS OPERATIONAL AREA The Belfast Hills area takes in Carnmoney Hill and Cave Hill to the north and Colin Glen, Divis and Black Mountain and Slievenacloy to the west. The operational boundary encompasses approximately 4,400 hectares (11,000 acres).
