OUR PROMISE
We will continue to adapt and grow with the ever-evolving world of animal welfare, prioritizing vital services for animals and people in the communities we serve. A NO-KILL, OPEN ADMISSION SHELTER We are committed to promoting the adoption of physically and mentally healthy companion animals. We use euthanasia ONLY as a last humane option. We treat all animals and people with respect, dignity, andintegrity.
LARGEST SHELTER IN NORTHERN AND EASTERN MAINE As the largest shelter in Northern and Eastern Maine, operating for over 150 years, we serve more than five Maine counties and countless communities. We hold ourselves to the highest standards of safety, care, and cleanliness. PRIORITIZING SPAY / NEUTER We work diligently to reduce animal overpopulation by increasing awareness of the importance of spay/neuter across our region. We spay or neuter every adopted dog, cat, and rabbit before they leave for their forever homes. For over a decade, we have partnered with area veterinary partners to provide low-cost spay/neuter services for low-income residents in our community. EDUCATION AND OUTREACH We educate and train caretakers to develop fulfilling, lifelong relationships with their companion animals. We raise public awareness of the humane treatment of animals through our programs, advocacy, and distribution of informational resources.Learn More About Us

WORDS FROM HAPPY HOMES I love what they do. They keep it nice and clean in there. They are great with the animals. It's a great place to volunteer or find a furbaby.
Savannah Oleary
Amazing people that are friendly and care about animals. They actually want the animals to go to a good home and treat each one as though it was their own. The best pets are rescue pets anyway!Tenny Martin
Very friendly staff. They helped me adopt my beautiful cat, Casper! I would definitely go back and adopt all the animals I wanted, but that's obviously not realistic. The animals were in good shape and clean. It seems they're treated with care.Chris Daubert

This shelter is a great place to find a new furry or sometimes no furry pet to add to your family. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. I've got 3 kittens from them over many years, and every time I do, it's a great experience.Kirt Dewitt
Amazing place. Animals are well cared for until they find their fur-ever home. The caretakers take amazing care of the loves. I hope that everyone will consider going and adopting today!Ammie Baker
