The following efforts took place in 2020. 173,832 PEOPLE received assistance from2-1-1 helpline HAWAIʻI UTILITY BILL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM The Hawai‘i Utility Bill Assistance program was created to help Hawaiʻi residents who are financially affected by the pandemic and who have fallen behind on their payments to electric, water, sewer and gas utilities. Thousands of residential customers who meet eligibility requirements can receive one-time assistance of funds up to $750. CLOSED COVID-19 ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS The program provided assistance for Hawai‘i renters and homeowners who have experienced economic hardship or a reduction in income due to the COVID-19 pandemic and are at risk of eviction.This program was funded by the Federal CARES Act and administered in collaboration with the State of Hawai‘i, Catholic Charities Hawai‘i, Aloha United Way (AUW) and our AUW partner agencies. EMERGENCY FLOOD RELIEF FUND The persistent rains in March 2021 have wiped out streets and caused millions of dollars worth of damages across the state of Hawai‘i. Aloha United Way’s (AUW) 211 helpline is often one of the first calls made by those in need of information and referrals when a crisis occurs—and these circumstances are no different.
