As someone who has publicly stumbled into a career in space, I often get asked about my interest in space as a little girl – if I had dreams of being an astronaut growing up, if I begged to go to space camp. These questions often bother me, not for being asked, but in the way they’re asked. SIX FEARS THAT KEEP EVENT ORGANIZERS UP AT NIGHT When I first came across hackathons several years ago, the idea sounded awesome to me. A bunch of people get together, brainstorm ideas, and build wacky or useful stuff over a weekend. I never really accepted the fact that they were in large part geared solely towards developers. I had weird ideas. WAKING UP FROM A 6 HOUR NAP (img via George Ruiz)I arrived home from SXSW at 10am, after staying up with friends until 5am, when I needed to leave for the airport. I don't believe that will happen in the same way. Peoples' piggy banks are squealing and while web 2.0 companies got started with minimal money, ONE SIZE DOES NOT FIT ALL Recently, there has been a rash of one-size-fits-all services that aim to provide a solution to "managing" various sites like Twitter, Pownce, Tumblr, Jaiku and Facebook all at once. As with most of my rants, they begin on Twitter and then trickle their way into a blog post - and if you've seen some of my tweets, you have seen my personal distaste for these services and the people who use them TWITTER REFUSES TO UPHOLD TERMS OF SERVICE Update 3 : Please see my follow-up post about Twitter's response. I started using Twitter in March 2007, just before their SXSW explosion. Not surprisingly, I instantly became addicted and since then have used the service for everything from personal to professional. Overall,Twitter is a g
