The Amerind Foundation was founded in 1937 by William Shirley Fulton (1880-1964) as a private, nonprofit archaeological research institution. A native of Connecticut, Fulton became interested in archaeology as a young man. EXHIBITS - AMERIND MUSEUM - RESEARCH CENTER, LIBRARY, ART Featuring pieces by over 20 artists, the show includes works from private collections and Amerind. You will see breathtaking artworks that can’t be seen anywhere else. This exhibition is a joint venture between the Amerind Museum and Friends of Western Art, a nonprofit organization whose members support awareness of and promote WesternArt.
AMERIND HISTORY
The Amerind Foundation was founded in 1937 by William Shirley Fulton (1880-1964) as a private, nonprofit archaeological research institution. A native of Connecticut, Fulton became interested in archaeology as a young man. Several trips to Arizona between 1906 and 1917 captured his attention in the Southwest’s past and presentNative cultures.

The West: Land of Many Stories. The Amerind Museum’s collection brings together artists from many cultures and places. The American West encompasses recent homesteads and ancient farming villages, sheepherders and cattle ranchers, bustling towns and isolated hamlets. Its people speak dozens of languages and are the inheritors of manyhistories.

Scope. Amerind’s 38,000 piece collection includes a cross-section of Native American ethnographic objects from the Western Hemisphere dating to the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Duplex Apartments. Traditionally used for our visiting scholars and artists, Amerind’s duplex apartments each have one bedroom, one bath, and a full kitchen. Our left duplex has a queen bed and pullout couch; our right duplex has two twin beds and a futon. There isLIBRARY AND ARCHIVE
The Amerind Library was established in 1960 as a non-circulating anthropology and archaeology reference library. Library holdings include 22,000 books in support of the museum collections, more than 600 unpublished manuscripts, the archaeological field diaries and photographs of Amerind excavations, site survey records, ongoing professional journals, and a rare book collection established by POLICIES - AMERIND MUSEUM - RESEARCH CENTER, LIBRARY, ART Photography Policy.
