The metal piece can slide underneath the top pieces of wood using the 2 x 4 as a fulcrum. When we were taking these off, we stood on the pallet to add weight and would wedge it under lifting it a little bit, move to the middle nails, nudge it a bit, then to the third. That way, we lessened the chance of breaking a board. HOW TO MAKE A SIMPLE 3 RING WOODEN BINDER I measured out the binder size onto the wood, making sure the file folder fit. Then I cut it with the bandsaw. I then transfered the holes of the file folder onto the wood with pencil and drilled them out. First I used a 5/32″ bit then upped it to 5/16″ bit. This is the order I sewed everything again based on the help from those two videos. Sewed the zipper onto the zipper panel. Connected one end of the boxing to one end of the zipper panel. Wrapped the cording into the piping “shell” and sewed it to one side of the entire boxing length. UPDATED MID CENTURY MODERN RECORD HOLDER Updated Mid Century Modern Record Holder. Originally this old record holder or magazine rack was a dull gold, worn away over time, now revealing a silver color. The corners and joints showed signs of rust. It’s most likely made of steel and offers a good solid weight. Goodbones they say.
REFURBISHED CANE BACK BARREL CHAIR REMOVAL OF CANE & SPLINE. I cut out what I could of the cane, leaving the spline behind. The spline is what fits into the groove, holding the cane in place, which was stapled and glued. I found a video showing the use of an actual steamer in order to remove the spline. Since I don’t have one, I used my iron set to steam. FIXING MY CHANGING TABLE TO POTTING BENCH MAKEOVER If you saw my DIY endeavor in making a potting bench out of an old changing table, I’m sorry. I’ve learned a lot since taking on what I thought was an awesome DIY project. Which it is! It was one of my first posts written and I’d seen them on Pinterest so when I was given a changing table, I jumped at the chance to make it a pottingbench.

I’ve recently acquired a true appreciation for the look and feel of vintage, mid-century items, especially those made of metal and the one thing which encompasses these characteristics are the old table top fans from around the 50’s and prior. My brother in law texted me one day and asked if I wouldn’t mind taking a look at a broken dresser drawer from his son’s dresser wondering if I’d be able to repair it. Seeing the picture he sent me, I’d asked if it was just coming apart. He said, yep, the drawer side is coming apart and there isn’t much teeth left and that he’d tried fixing it to no avail. All I said was, I’d be willing to try. Continue reading “How to Fix a Broken Drawer Side with Dovetails Using a Bandsaw” →SHARE ON

Making shelves is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time now and I need to make more. I think some basement shelving would be awesome in our short 5’ 5” tall basement. Having a small home is wonderful. It forces us to question everything we bring in to the house. However, we still have too much stuff. We have a back “mudroom” that is pretty much overflow of the kitchen. However, there are plenty of other things we can add to this shelving unit. It just keeps adding up.
