STUDIO PANEL COMBINATIONS What is common to all Affinity desktop apps is that Studio panels can be arranged in many alternative combinations and groupings instead of their default docked locations. Artboards are design areas. An artboard is a self-contained design area in which you can draw your design, much like a normal page. It acts as a container for on-artboard objects much like an object group. Single artboard: business card (front) for professional printing. Each artboard can have its own unique ruler guides, column guides and grid AFFINITY PUBLISHER: TO EMBED OR TO LINK FILES? From the Document menu, select Resource Manager. The Placement column shows whether each file is embedded or linked. To change a file’s status, select the file you wish to change and click Make Linked or Embed. If you are swapping an embedded file to a linked file, use the dialog to navigate to a folder which you want the embedded file to be IMPROVE YOUR PAGE LAYOUTS WITH AFFINITY PUBLISHER’S COLUMN The Guides Manager, with examples of filled (left) and outline (right) guide styles behind. Tucked inside the handy Appearance Panel in Affinity Designer lies the ability to do a whole lot more than just change your current settings. Here you can apply multiple strokes, transparencies, gradients and fills to any vector object, all from the same settings box! JUMP INTO AFFINITY PHOTO The Persona Toolbar, found at the top left of Affinity Photo’s user interface. The concept of Personas exists across all the Affinity apps—essentially, Personas are different workspaces for different tasks.In truth, the majority of your time will be spent in the Photo Persona and, if you develop RAW files, the Develop Persona.The other Personas are for additional functionality that you mayRAW, ACTUALLY

Probably the most well-known free font provider. The site is mainly intended for provision of fonts for websites, but the fonts will be perfectly acceptable for print or PDF output using Affinity Publisher. HOW TO USE THE NEW ISOMETRIC DRAWING TOOLS IN AFFINITY The new Affinity Designer 1.7 update gives us all a MASSIVE set of new features and improvements that are quite simply impossible to detail all in a single post. So, to keep our heads from exploding into tiny pixels, we are going to focus exclusively on the new isometric drawing tools and break them down as smoothly as possible. BLEND MODES EXPLAINED Essentially, blend modes determine exactly how an upper layer’s pixel colours will blend with those on the layer (s) beneath. Results can vary quite dramatically depending on the chosen mode. There are five or six most commonly used modes but anywhere up to 30 modes may be available in your app. Tip: Experimentation is key! With that in mind, I wanted to illustrate some of Affinity Photo’s key features and functionality that can enhance astrophotography workflows, and hopefully give you some alternative ideas about how to approach the various techniques used in this type of image editing. UNDERSTANDING CLIPPING IN AFFINITY APPS Clipping is an operation you can perform in Affinity that lets you restrict the visibility of an object/layer to another object/layer. If you’re familiar with a layered stack of objects, as you’d see in a Layers Panel, objects typically stack on top of each other. The top-most object being the nearest to you as you view your screen; the CREATE BLACK AND WHITE 'COLOUR POP' PHOTOS USING MASKING A walkthrough of how to use a low opacity Erase Brush Tool to make subtle colour show through on a Black & White Adjustment layer. Use the Gradient Tool and set the colour points to black and white to create a fade from black and white to colour across your whole image. Note that the black point will show colour and the white point will show black and white.
