OUR FARMS — RED HOOK FARMS Wolcott Street Farm* 30 Wolcott Street, Brooklyn, NY 11231. Our newest farm site, the 1.1 acre education farm at Red Hook Houses West was built in 2013 through a collaboration with Green City Force, the Mayor's Office, and the NYC Housing Authority - the first farm site ever on NYCHA property!. Accessibility: all paths are wheelchair accessible (heavy mulch). WHAT'S NEW AT ADDED VALUE FARMS! Red Hook Farms. October 20, 2017. Souhair Kenas, Farm Education Manager Souhair is a budding urban farmer with a background in youth education. She spent a summer building community gardens in under-served communities while also teaching the beauty and liberating activity of gardening through comprehensive STEM programming in group homes and juvenile detentioncenters.
YOUTH EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM The Youth Farmers program is a paid apprenticeship for youth, ages 14-19 years old, living in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Apprentices are involved in all parts of running the farms - planting, weeding, harvesting, composting, marketing, outreach, and more. Beside learning to be an urban farmer, you will also develop your job and leadershipskills
COMPOST OPERATION
the largest community composting program in the United States run entirely on renewable resources. The NYC Compost Project is located at the Columbia Street Farm and hosted by the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. With 1,900+ volunteers each year, the compost operation processes over 225 tons/year of organic material. Rather than being transported to distant landfills by gas-emitting garbage trucks CSA + FRESH FOOD BOX Payment: cash, check, debit/credit, EBT. Pricing is sliding scale, based on household income. Level 1: Full share: $330 (works out to $15/week) Small share: $215 (works out to $9.75/week) Household income: under $45,000. Payable in full at first pick up, or in two equal installments. Level 2: FARM STAND — RED HOOK FARMS Saturdays, 10am-3pm @ Columbia Street farm. Mid-June through mid-November. 560 Columbia Street, at the corner of Columbia and Sigourney.
