Free-form lens design and surfacing technology compensate the lens surface, making the effective power perceived by the patient in the primary gaze position match the prescribed power given by the refracting doctor. Why are they not the same? Short answer: The trial lenses used to refract the patient are flat and sit perpendicular to the patient’s visual axis in the SLAB-OFF, REVERSE SLAB-OFF AND BI-CENTRIC GRINDING Slab-off, Reverse Slab-off and Bi-centric Grinding. The most common way of correcting vertical imbalance is to induce a vertical prismatic effect in the lower half of one lens. This type of correction is referred to as bi-centric grinding, or slab-off. It can be used HARD COATING SYSTEMS Hard Coating Systems. Therefore, using the lab invoice, find the compensated lens power and when checking in lenses, apply the latest of ANSI Z80.1 STRENGTHENING THE LAB-ECP PARTNERSHIP TO IMPROVE PATIENT By Sarah McGoldrick. A common school of thought is that if the edge of the lens will be exposed (as they would be with both semi-rimless and drilled rimless frames) you should choose to have those edges polished in order to enhance the aesthetic of the finished glasses. By polishing the edges of these lenses you help to create the "invisible" look oflenses
